Currently rebuilding my Series III onto a new chassis someone told me to fir Pro Comp shockers, the problem is it's going to cost me about £80 more than fitting standard shockers, are they a worth the extra as I'm on a tight budget.

wow... they are only £26 each from Paddocks... so to cost you £80 more you must be getting your shocks at £6 each???

They are good shocks, i like them... but i'm sure there are other people on here who hate them too.

Never was good at maths basically are they worth the extra money. I think you forgot the VAT though. Cheers.

yes - but the standard shocks on paddocks are about £10 ex. vat and these are £26 ex. vat - so just talking ex-vat - i guess its £40 V £104

I see your point though - there is a big difference.

What do you itend to use your landie for and are you putting parabolics or standard leafs on it?

For standard leafs for road driving the cheap ones would be fine

I too am thinking about gettign another set of shocks as we have now killed all four of them on our last trip. Or are Pro Comp shocks just as likely to die if you give them a load of abuse?

I've never used Pro Comp shocks myself, but I know people who have had bad experiences with them not lasting very well. One particular problem I've heard of is that the front shocks are too wide at the base, so when cross axled the the shocks come into contact with the springs,or something, and get damaged.

There are other gas shocks on the market for series Land-Rovers like Monroe and DeCarbon. I've never tried those either. Standard shocks seem to last well.

I'm tempted to modify my SIII so that a set of Defender 90 shock absorbers can be fitted. This should give better axle articulation.

ok read this thread and others and i am also looking at new shocks (dampers) the trouble i am having is finding out what size /part number etc that i need to look for, i know about the standard ones and the heavy duty ones but it appears paddock only do the one type of gas shocks.... any advice guys,,

I've got pro comp +2" on mine and it's mainly used offroad so they get a fair amount of abuse. They are larger in diameter but I've had no trouble with them and mines got mega travel on the suspension. I think they're a really good shock for the price but if your not gonna go offroad save yourself some money and buy standard ones

as said a very good shock ive not had any problems with myn ..the only small niggle is the bottom shocker rubbers do wear out quicker but there 60p a go so not to bad and change em when i service it ....but i am also useing para and used mainly offroading

Also, there are Rough Country shocks availabe for the Series in both Nitro and Hydro - quite expensive though at £160 - has anyone heard good things about Rough Country? I am considering getting these as I have been told they are a lot beefier than standard and Pro Comp. (standard shocks do not last vey long for me)

old man emu for me always ;) set i have on my old 90 are 7 / 8 years old now still going strong

I rate pro comps, fantastic shocker for the money. I've pretty much had a set on every one of my landys, and have yet to have any hassle with them on, or off road.

stratie - the problem I have with shocks is that they really do get a pounding with my landie...greenlaning, p&p etc are fairly mild when compared to a fair few thousand miles over rough terrain at speed. We had Pro Comp on the Range Rover in Algeria and they lasted less than half the trip - they just could not hack it. The Series landie is obviously a lot lighter so prob wont be as prone to failing, but it has still put me off Pro Comp slightly. I killed stadnard (but HD) shocks on the series in about 8000 miles.
