A read through the green laning threads and the majority seem to have Disco's / TDI 90's / v8 series etc etc. If I did manage to hook up with some other green laners in my bog standard 2 1/4 petrol 88, am I going to **** them off by lagging behind ? I know actual green lanes probably wont be an issue, but with a top speed (before my ears begin to bleed) of 40mph I'm going to get left behind on the tarmac bits between the green lane bits :confused:

Also, while I think about it, the Wayfarer is 5 mins from my front door. I know there is a TRO in force. Does that mean the whole stretch is off limits or can I go so far and then turn round and come back ? Don't want to just go up there without checking with you lot first and **** off a civil servant ;)

First off .. no, you'd be fine. If your S2 only does 40 then any reasonable group would stick to 40 between lanes. If you came with any group I was a part of you ouldn't get left .. well, not unless you were a complete tw4ttock anyway ... ;)

2nd, best check local councils for up to date info on TRO's .. look for rights of way section in the local council website.

I have had it up to 45, but I was worried that either my diff/g'box/engine or inner ear would explode, so I backed it down to 40!
I wouldn't be too worried about constantly having to catch up, just wouldn't want everyone else to be ****ed off as they are constantly having to wait/slow down for that new guy in his asthmatic 88 :D

Point taken about the TRO. Although I have just found a comment from someone that the council may be OK with people negotiating around the offending hole conditions permitting :)

Oh, and the only person to call me a ****tock is the wife, so technically that counts for nowt.
 
If we have someone in a group who has a series that's a bit tired we generally just leave the Disco in low box anyway .. evens it out a bit ..;)

We stick to 50 max on the bits between lanes. Most Discos/Rangies/Defenders can't stay with my Series on the tough bits.:cool:
 
Saturday we drove to a competition at 33mph due to my awful tyre balance issues.

Might be worth somone looking at your mota tho a half decent 88 petrol should be able to hold out 60 no probs. My old mans 109 would sit at 70 with an overdrive fitted all day long and I know it has been around as far that the speedo needle was resting behind the start point pin on the speedo.

Looking at your location I wouldn't have thought speed is too much of an issue between lanes. The roads are a bit narrow in places usually with blind bends and steep bits - only a fool would want to drive at more than 40mph. Admittedly it is different on the main roads but if you're out for a trundle around there is no need to rush.

I go laning in N.Wales a couple of times a year and the slowest vehicle in our group is a Series and its not a problem..
 
@Jai - Was shocked to read your claim of 60mph. A little investigation is needed by the look of it.

@Key - You are right running in my locality was never a problem, it was really about decent A road stretches between green lanes that was a concern :)
 
I take my 88" out laning all the time - this weekend we had a range rover blow its back diff, a V8 disco blow its engine, a 110 devlope some electrical / engine fault and a 90" blow its tyre up. We also had to winch a few discos / rangies up parts.

My 88" at the front of the pack, with the occassional assistance of my passenger directing me up / down very steep rocky bits had no problems what so ever, I was actually majorly impressed by its performance given the mess some guys got into.

And being at the front of the pack meant everyone had to go at my speed on the road legs :)

That said, on a motorway, with a roof, if i need to, it does get up to 65mph - but you have to stop every 10 minutes to top up the fuel tank :(
 
Must admit, my old S3 used to tow the caravan at 50 all day long (eg Nottingham to Tiverton, then on to Swansea, then back to Nottingham) .... Mind, even empty it still only did 60 if you wanted to keep your own teeth! ;)

Don't worry about road performance. If you don't already have tall tyres fitted then I'd suggest you get some 7.50 x 16 or 235/85 x 16 tyres. With 205 x 16 or 6.00 x 16 tyres you'd be at a considerable disadvantage compared to coilers when it comes to deep ruts. Waterproof the the HT electrics as best you can and take some toilet paper and WD40 incase the electrics get drowned.
