Personal experience...

I have a Disco and Defender 90.

Bought the disco first and had loads of fun in it... confortable, loads of room, etc...

but, for me, the Defender is the ultimate toy... and its better off road than the disco, with the Defender I noticed its easier to go through some stuff, and my 90 doesnt even have all the mods the disco has...

bog standard, the defender is a better off road toy than the disco.
Of course if you do loads of miles and like to drive at a fast pace, go for the disco...

speed doesnt bother me, as the disco or defender is just a toy, so i usually drive around at 50 or so..not in a hurry to go anywhere, its a weekend toy to release some stress...

I wouldnt go back to a Disco after having the 90..its just so much more fun to drive than the disco!

well I'm landyless (almost.. when I find a buyer) so thinking this question through again.. the thing is I need seats for 6 so if I go for a defender lwb countryman on a TD5 why not just go for a discovery and have the comfort and the toys instead?

If you go for the disco 7 seater you can only have a max of 5 forward facing seats. If you go for a 110 csw you could make it 7 forward facing if you so wished.

We,ve found, when working a Defender and Disco, ( down on the faaarm,,parp ! ), that the only problems with the Disco, ( TD5 ), was its extra weight causing more " damage to soft tracks and fields, and cosequently, on some muddy rutted inclines, losing traction, whereas the lighter 90 kept going.

The other thing thats not ideal on the Disco is the longer gearing when moving off towing heavy loads. We always pulled livestock with the shorter legged Defender.

The Disco has good spec levels and mine has 7 seats.

The D1 was prone to rust, and has given the Disco a bad name in this respect. But the D2,s body is showing little signs of rust after 10/11 years.

Its personal preference isnt it.

I think they,re awesome vehicles, ( Defender and Discovery ), and if you lay on yor back underneath one you wont see much difference.

I do belive that the TD5 versions of the Defender and Discovery, were the last of thier kind, and dont think that the more modern offerings will have the following of what had come before.

The Defender with the Ford engine in and the D3 and 4, have, I think, become a bit souless. Very refined, dont get me wrong, but wasnt that what the Rangerover was for.

( dont agree with the " Disco,s are plastic mum mobiles though " ).

discoverys must be the most over rated vehicle in the history of
over rated vehicles.....just feel the ride quality on a road
with a few bends in it........
