hi ratty checked the pipes goin to the pump and i have em on the correct way.... changed the oil and filters as it needed it took her for a 5 mile spin and man alive fuel filter is tooooo hot to touch and a funny smell of burnin comin from the rear of the disco:(:confused:... oh and whilst givin her a service i noticed the plonker that serviced it be4 me wrung the threads on one of the bolts on the centrifugal filter housing:mad:... i do know that theres only a small torque on them ..10NM i think.. so will i have to drill out the threads and stick in a helicoil???

Summit is definately not right. The fuel returning to the tank should only be around 70 degs C. Any higher than that and you risk melting the plastic tank.

It might be worth checking that you have a fuel cooler and that it hasn't been bypassed.

You say the new pump you fitted isn't an original one. Do you mean it's off another type of vehicle or that it's a non genuine pump?
 
its a non genuine pump... although i bought it from a landrover parts dealer in Matlock... the fuel cooler(little aluminium cylinder was replaced a few yrs ago on it as it was leaking diesel but havent had any probs since).. :confused:
 
Have you noticed the fuel pressure regulator leanking at all? Is there diesel running down the bell housing/rear of engine on the off side?

Was there any problem with the oil in the loom at the ECU?

Have you replaced the fuel filter for the correct one now?

Anywhere you may be able to get a plug-in? That may save you some money.

Is the fuel pump still noisey? Did you purge all the air out of the fuel system? If there's air in the fuel system it can cause the temp of the filter to get higher than usual.
 
yes ratty pump is still noisey.. not sure if all air is out i know there is a self bleed but where is the best place to check for bubbles if im not sure? i put a new filter on when i replaced the pump cause i got a new sedimentor when i ordered the pump... checked ecu its fine no oil at all... now i think you are onto something with the drip on the bell housing.. was under her this eve(AND THE DISCO TOO):D.. theres diesel dripping from somewhere had me trustee mini mag now the fuel cooler seems dry no signs of leak but cant be sure cause i cant see all of it.... leak seems more on the engine side even a sup on the starter.. if it is the cooler the word bastid springs to mind a man would have to be quadruple jointed to get it from the underside as far as a plug in goes dunno anyone with one and the garages here are far too expensive prob cheaper to buy a unit.. what is the best unit to buy and would it be able to identify a prob like mine?? thanks ratty much appreciate your patience as well as help

where are you located? There might be someone close by with nanocom or similar.

Check for leaks from the fuel pressure regulator at the back of the engine. It's a common fault. What type of fuel cooler does your landy have. Does it look like a cylinder or is it a bit like a sardine can?
 
am located in ireland... and the garages charge 110 euro plus the vat an hour to look at a disco so hence me askin bout a diagnostics tool prob cheaper in the long run... the fuel cooler is the cylindrical type i had a prob when i first got the disco three yrs ago with it so the garage replaced it ... they said it cost 325 euro from a landy garage but ive been buyin me gear from uk ever since far cheaper.. so ive been lookin to price a cooler havent seen any yet i know the pressure reg costs 95 quid.gonna check out paddocks

Hello there, just to give you an idea of how to reduce your running costs. The fuel cooler that you had repalcefd at vast cost - it only needed to new 'o'-rings to stop it leaking; it total cost about £1.50 !!!!! Plus a bit of your time. see this thread as an example:

Land Rovers are not hard to work on and there is a massive network of people out there willing to help.

I would advise you to buy a HawkEye diagnostic tool and do your own servicing and repairs - it'll be about 80% cheaper than you are used to paying and you'll learn what makes your car tick.

Thanks Dave, robbin bastids.. should be locked up with the bankers i say:mad:.. anyhoo i think the leak is comin from the pressure valvejust above the cooler.. will take a closer look tomorrow let you know how i get on:).. and you are most right theres a great group of ppl on here like yourself only too willing to help god bless the internet is what i say:D
