regarding instruments thats the way i originally started out, no speedo, tacho, and temp reads of the scale, everything else works. 2001-2003 models have same wiring plugs which fit straight in but you still have same problems with speedo tacho and temp, hence the reason you need to convert speed signal to something dash recognises.
you can also fit your standard cluster to new dash, that way you still get new cd and centre console
What is it that is in the facelift model that reads/recognises/converts speed signals to the instrument cluster that cannot be transferred to an upgrade for it to operate correctly??? Is it the main engine ecu or what??? What if one were to get a compete wiring loom for the whole car??? Would you also need to change the L series engine to TD4 and then change the ECU???

old ones took reading from gearbox sensor, new ones from abs sensor whic feeds signal to abs pump, full wiring loom plus abs pump and bcu, may have to change some brake lines as well to marry up to abs pump
