Just wondering what ways you can improve the oomph on a 300Tdi?

I've seen the intercoolers and perfomance hoses but has anyone fitted them? Do they make a big difference?

I've already turned up my fuel pump which helps on that initial stage of turbo lag.

Just wondering what esle you can do?

Depends if you want torque or cruising speed. I stand to be corrected on this but from my limited experience standard wheels and tyres seem to offer more torque at low speeds and a comfortable cruising speed of around 55mph on a 300tdi. Bigger wheels and tyres, say 265/75 r16s seem to have a better cruising speed of 60/65 mph but dont seem to offer the same pulling power at low speeds and up hills.
 
Allisport intercooler is a good start (30-40 bhp) then tweak your pump again. K&N Filter will certainly help. Sometimes ram feed snorkels help by getting nice cold air for above the vehicle (Safari snorkels). Then you can work on the exhaust, get rid of the silencers/particle filters/catalysts. If you want to go mad you can look at stuff like variable geometery turbos and manifolds. Remember as you increase power you need to increase gear ratios. This can be done by increased gearing in the T box (disco gears) or larger tyres like someone said earlier.

easiest way without spending tons on performance parts are, ditch the cat, for a straight through pipe, and maybe the second silencer, then do an EGR bypass/blank, you'll instantly notice the difference, but if you haven't done all this, not sure why you tinkered with the fuel pump straight away, if you haven't done the cat ect.
 
I've blanked my EGR valve already and got straight through pipe aswell. I'm not looking for sports car acceleration it's just I hate that initial lag of power at lower speeds.

I've had a look at Twisted Performance but as someone said earlier, it's not a sports car. I just want to make it that easier to drive.

I will definitely be looking at de-cat pipes, and will (now I have seen about it) the EGR blanking too.

decat, de-egr remove centre box, you could fit a tuned head, or bigger cooler, modified cams etc etc, but if you want a fast motor, buy summat else.

Update - Twisted also did the EGR blanking too during my upgrade. De-cat of the pipes is inexpensive, but also makes your Defender fail its MOT on emissions, so I won't be doing this anyway. Sad times.
 
But seeing as not all 300s were fitted with cats/EGR how will they tell which is which?? I was under the impression it was going to affect newer motors.
Don't deisels give out little to no CO anyway, hence modern one have DPFs not CATS to filter out particulates rather than convert CO to CO2
 
I don't know about the change in MOT testing, it was just that when I looked to buy the decat pipes on Ebay the (reputable) business selling them pointed out (VERY CLEARLY) that would fail the MOT emissions test going forward.

As I say, sad times.
