for some reason my alarms going mad. my father borrowed my car today and said that when he parked it and locked it it was fine, but after a while the alarm went off and kept going off all the time. Now that Im home I noticed that when you unlock it the light on the dash flashes like crazy untill i put the key in, then when you lock it the light goes mad again. What could be the cause??
Another thing I did have a leaking sunroof so I sealed it, but a little bit still gets in when it rains hard, could this be the cause??

I recently endured a 6 week period where the alarm, if locked with the fob, would start sounding anywhere from one minute to one hour after locking.

The fault was eventually traced to the rear compartment door not closing properly due to the plastic guide piece ( on the frame ) being bent out of shape. Cutting off most of the plastic guide with a Stanly knife, did the trick

Hi mate, about the flashing light, analize this first:

Anti-theft alarm indicator light
This light provides information about the status
of the alarm system, as follows:
When the vehicle is locked:
The light flashes rapidly while the alarm is
arming itself. After ten seconds, the light
adjusts to a slower frequency and continues to
flash as an anti-theft deterrent until the alarm is
disarmed.
If the engine is immobilised (even though the
alarm has been disarmed):
The light flashes slowly until the engine is
remobilised.
If the alarm has been triggered:
The light will flash rapidly when the alarm is
disarmed until the starter switch is turned to
position II.
If the remote handset battery power is low:
The light will flash rapidly for ten seconds after
the handset has been used when the driver's
door is opened.
Mislock
If the driver's door is not fully closed when the
handset lock button is pressed, the alarm
sounder or vehicle horn will sound once,
indicating a mislock. In this case, none of the
doors will lock and the alarm system will not be
armed.
If a passenger door or other aperture is not fully
closed when the handset lock button is
pressed, the alarm sounder or vehicle horn will
sound once, indicating a mislock. However, the
‘partial armin
attributes of the security system
will enable as much of the system to be armed
as possible (all fully closed door or bonnet
apertures will be protected, but an open door
will not!). As soon as the open aperture is
closed, the system will automatically revert to a
fully armed state.
NOTE: If a mislock occurs as a result of an open
door, the superlocking and interior space
protection features will not be activated.
The mislock audible warning can be
disabled by a Land Rover dealer.
If the alarm sounds
If the alarm is triggered, the alarm sounder or
vehicle horn will sound for 30 seconds before
switching off and resetting itself to the same
protection status that existed prior to the alarm
being triggered.
To silence the alarm, press either button on the
remote handset.

I saw a kind of syndrome you've described...... the rapid flashing means that the BCU is receiving an information from somewhere and it's entering in e specific mode, or it is f****d up itself, or the alarm module makes jokes..... (in my case that was the problem a wrong contact inside the BCU...... unfailable dioagnostic will be given by a tester.

the light is flashing to show you the alarm has been triggered.
might sound stupid but I had an alarm going off in the middle of the night several days in a row , turned out to be a moth.
when it woke up and fluttered around it set the alarm off. may be worth checking for bugs.
Andy

It will be either...or combination of
-water damage to BCU
-RF unit
-Earth for RF Unit
-One of the electronic latches incorporating alarm sensors on its way out
-Volumetric sensor
-Bonnet alarm switch

....or a moth

You may also get odd combinations of thins not working eg no fuel flap/windows/rr wiper etc etc

well touch wood i locked it last night and it hasnt done it since! Im thinking its either the water got to the sensor in the roof, or maybe a little got to the bcu. Ive had all the doors and windows open all day to dry it out and it seems fine now! Thanks for all the help, im just praying it doesnt start again! :)
