p38 immobilizer

hi my car has been stood for a while and wont let me start is there a way around the immobilizer to get it running again.
bear in mind i am a halfwit and put in isolator yesterday coz i cudnt remember the word for immobilizer and what the hell is becm?

sorry to hear your woes,i had this problem last year,my BECM locked down(the BECM is the cars brain if you like,it manages all the electrics on the car but someone on here will give a better description no doubt)and had to take it out and have it un-locked

Are you getting "engine disabled" on the screen?,also there is the eka code which will have to be entered to start the car

thanks yes the engine disabled comes up and were would i get the becm unlocked and also were the eka code from i have no paperwork apart from v5

i got mine done by someone on here(ANDY.R) but there are a few who can do it(IRISHROVER is another)but before doing that make sure that is the problem,it might just need the eka code putting in,there are people on here who can give you more precise info on the subject

I got my code from the Land Rover dealer where the car was originaly bought over the phone(they will ask you the VIN number)

Was it starting/running Ok before it was layed up?
As far as I know (and I can't claim to be an expert so I will wait to be corrected) the immobiliser will remain in the same state as it was when it was last running so nothing should have altered.
Are you getting any messages on the dash?
Have the batteries gone flat in your remotes? If so they need resyncronising, see how to in your handbook.

If it wasn't running before you got it could have a multitude of unknown problems.

The BECM is the central computer that talks to everythin on the car and sits under the drivers seat. Again it shouldn't have gone wrong whilst its been stood unless it has got wet.

The various electrical systems do need a good voltage so if your battry is not fully charged that can be another source of trouble.

The becm is the most finneky and tempremental ecu on the car. It hates change as many on this forum can testify.
Just like a hedgehog, if circumstances change, it will just play it safe and roll up into a ball.
In most instances, the EKA procedure will reset the becm, but in others it will need either a main dealer to fit a new becm at around £980 + fitting, or unlocking and disarming by people on here with the appropriate software.

Having exactly the same prob as this...engine disabled on display......no eka.....got really ****ed off with it and let it sit for nearly 2 weeks....went to it this morning to try and sort it and the f^^%&*g thing started first time!!!!
I did have to open it with the key in lock rather than a button press but been using it all day with no probs...so now i really have no idea whats up with it.

You do realise these posts are over 8 years old don't you? May be a better idea to start a new thread with your problem.

What's the issue you have? I have BECM diagnostics tools (though it looks like you're in the states, and I'm in the UK... though I've had units sent from Canada and as far away as NZ before!) if required, but it could be something external to the BECM which is causing the problem, or the BECM not to respond like it should.
