  1. wireman liked Turboman's post in the thread Three front seats in a 110 with belts..how?.

Bit of a waste of time. It is impossible for anyone to ride in those centre seats with comfort for more than a few minute, unless one of them happens to be less than 4 feet tall, and with one leg. People usually remove the centre seat, and fit...

As @Bantam1 says prime, paint then Waxoyl or Dinitrol. I'm sure I've read people get good results with Linseed Oil but you'd need to research that for yourself

Try different insurers who will accept Skytag.

  6. wireman replied to the thread Series 3 Grinding noise from gearbox in reverse.

Grinding is not good (in a gearbox anyway!) I'm no gearbox specialist but I'd say its a bearing issue. Those that have tried have said series gearboxes are simple beasts and are (fairly) simple to work on. Doesn't help your frustration though...

Or leave it on your drive overnight with a sign saying "For Sale £20" and the metal fairies will make it disappear in the dead of night...

  10. wireman replied to the thread Prop shaft.

If you post this question in the Freelander section you'll get the full story but basically the Viscous Coupling Unit (VCU) seizes up due to lack of use(?). The whole drive train 'winds up' identifiable by scuffing on the outer edges of the rear...

  11. wireman liked Nodge68's post in the thread Power inverter.

That's the way I do it. I've a 50 Watt solar panel, charging a 50 Ah lead acid battery, using one of my PWM5 charger controllers. The lighting as taken care of my a couple of 5 Watt LED bulbs, for normal illumination, and brighter LED strips...

  12. wireman liked TheMegaMan's post in the thread Series 3, Petrol RPM.

Not entirely sure I agree with that. Most rpm meters aren't *that* inaccurate. But with a lazy/heavy engine like the Landy, idle speed isn't really that much of an issue, anyway. The only reason to have a higher idle speed is to ensure the engine...

  13. wireman liked saxavordian's post in the thread Series 3, Petrol RPM.

There's your clue a cheap PM Tester. If you feel the vehicle struggling and the gauge reading wrong on the engine rev counter the tester correct. But no issue pulling away in 1st gear without touching the accelerator pedal the tester is wrong.

  14. wireman liked sierrafery's post in the thread Coolant mystery....<again>!.

The bleeding procedure from RAVE is incomplete and in most cases there is still air in the system in the bypass circuit, as you drove it hard the residual air was dislodged that's why the level dropped IMO. Also it's normal for the level to drop...

  15. wireman replied to the thread Coolant mystery....<again>!.

I had a coolant loss mystery on my TD5 90 last year. Like you I had coolant level dropping without obvious cause. Turns out it was the hose from the heat exchanger/fuel cooler to the water pump (I think).. It was rubbing on the chassis and had...
