The most miles out of one tank.

431 miles in my '85 110 with over 250k on the clock... Although, it's not the original engine (disco 200tdi) though I'd guess its about due a rebuild as it smokes a fair bit and recently has started to sound like a bag of spanners

    Axle Breathers

The banjo is sold together with the plastic breather pipe (but i think you can get the bolt separately). Part number varies depending on year and whether front or rear - could be ftc2175, ftc2176, ftc2177 or ftc2178

200tdi cut out and will not restart

White smoke can be a symptom of air in the fuel. First I'd eliminate solenoid by taking it off and removing the plunger from inside (if you can't get a spanner on it then vice grips would work as it shouldn't be tight). Once you put the empty solenoid back then you may have to stall the engine...

    Parasitic Drain (Not child related)

Had a peugeot with a similar problem - it was indeed the alternator and was caused by a build up of carbon dust on the rectifier. Dismantling and a good clean sorted it

    Tdi not tdi?

This video explains the basic operation of the tdi pump (except for the aneroid on the top)

    thermostat bolt stripped

+1 for helicoil type repair. Tried my first one on a cylinder head last week. Totally drama free - i think I'm in love!

200tdi conversion turbo charger circlip help

It turned out that the circlip groove was actually slightly tapered so a standard 3mm thick circlip kind of fit - maybe it sits in the groove by 1mm all the way around. Anyway, my impatience says try it without modification and if the compressor housing pops off then I'll have learnt a lesson...

200tdi conversion turbo charger circlip help

I'm afraid it was just an aerosol of silver VHT paint that was left over in the garage - the empty tin has gone off with the recycling. It looked really good when it went on but since then my oily fingers haven't done it much good.

200tdi conversion turbo charger circlip help

Thanks! Was too lazy the clean the whole engine as it is covered in baked on clay (P.O. is a green laner) but as i had the head off i decided to fit a new turbo CHRA and splash a bit of paint around. Thanks for the heads up about INA. Will see what i can dig up, although I'm really hoping to...

200tdi conversion turbo charger circlip help

Yeah, turned out that the part is no longer available. I shall have another hunt around in the shed for the missing bit but it is looking very much like i will be having a go at sanding down a standard 3mm thick circlip.

200tdi conversion turbo charger circlip help

Yep, i measured the housing as 95mm bore with a 2.5mm groove... Or at least that's what i recall. This rules out DIN standard circlips as they are 3mm thick for that diameter. Anyway, will double check when i get back home at the weekend.

200tdi conversion turbo charger circlip help

Hi Kwakerman, thanks to your post it inspired me with new terms for googling and i think I've identified the part as RTC6537

200tdi conversion turbo charger circlip help

Now I'm (more) confused. It looks like the correct part, although that's the defender rather than the disco turbo. I had thought that the CHRA was the same for both, meaning the circlip should be the same. In which case i must have had a brain fade when recalling the circlip diameter... Can...

200tdi conversion turbo charger circlip help

Hi LZ land, can anyone help me source the great big circlip (turbine housing retaining clip) which holds the inlet side of the turbo housing onto the CHRA? I have managed to lose mine (dont ask) so need a replacement to finish reassembly. It's an '85 110 but the engine is from a discovery...

    Steering rod help please?

I've read that landies dont have equal turns lock to lock due to the position of the steering arm, so centre (or rather the tightest position of the steering box) is actually 2 turns from one lock (and 1.75 turns from the other). In practical terms there is only 1/8 of a turn between these 2...
