  3. Rodeo Joe replied to the thread Series 3 Steering box overhaul.

I don't think theres a fixing behind the dash, the holding bracket is in the engine bay on the bulkhead. You will need to take out the binnacle tho so you can see what you are doing to guide it out. Take off the ignition barrel and it will slide...

You are wrong there Oldseadog, the circlip only prevents the shaft moving in towards the diff.It is the shoulder at the end of the splines that prevents the shaft from moving out through the drive flange.

  9. Rodeo Joe replied to the thread Rear hub cap fell off and stub axle protuding.

As has been said already theres something seriously amiss cos the shaft shouldn't be able to move out like that. If it was mine I'd take off the drive member and see what else comes off with it- nothing else should move . Take off the circlip and...

The cap is just a cover you can't break anything by taking it off but you might have to get a new one to get it to stay on again- only costs pennies.

  15. Rodeo Joe replied to the thread Door strikers.

As has been said you may or not need shims you just have to fettle it till it is right and the door shuts ok. The new (or rather old style) strikers may also need to have the holes redrilled in the body to fit them, at least I had that problem...
