  1. Nodge68 replied to the thread Freelander 1 A NO BAD NEWS POST.

The problem with the Freelander section, is the lack of posts, especially compared to more troublesome larger LRs. No faults generally means nothing to post, so this section of the forum can be very quiet. Apart from my recent (hopefully now...

Just enlarge the 2 holes that the bolts won't go to. I'd drill the bar using the next drill size up, and try again. I'm sure it'll be secure enough while it's missing 2 bolts. The towing eye is rated at 4.5 tons, and has less bolts holding it on.

Comma Diesel Magic actually does work, but can't vouch for other products.

It may have run better if the original EGR valve was still active. However mine's been disabled for many years. I must admit that I haven't noticed much difference, at least not yet.

Agreed. I use it monthly, and so far my injectors have remained working reasonably well, considering I was thinking of changing them 3 years ago.

This morning I fitted the freshly painted EGR bypass.[ATTACH] This is really an experiment to see if it makes much difference, compared to a deactivated factory valve. There's a lot of restriction in the factory EGR valve, by comparison to the...

  7. Nodge68 replied to the thread Freelander 1 Any "how-tos" for changing gearbox / transfer box / diff oil?.

I've never come across a blocked breather on the IRD, however anything is possible. It's been reported that the IRD cooler disc can rust though, but normally only is incorrect coolant (water) has been used. It sounds like you need to pop the...

  8. Nodge68 replied to the thread Freelander 1 Track control arm torque settings???.

Delphi are the OE components, but TRW are also a reputable brand, so I guess they're ok. I'm finding that the joint boots are lasting no time at all these days. I don't know if rubber is poorer quality than in the past, or the UV radiation from...

You can leave it off the EGR control solenoid if you like. But you must block the vacuum pipe from the main vacuum circuit, where it goes to the EGR solenoid.

It's come off the control solenoid, which is under the manifold, above the starter. You can block the pipe at the other end, where the vacuum pipe splits off the main circuit. You must plug the pipe, or the vacuum will deplete while the EGR...

  11. Nodge68 replied to the thread Freelander 1 Track control arm torque settings???.

I don't do the rear mount nut anything like 140Nm. I normally do them till they're normal spanner tight, which would be about 80Nm, at a guess. The thread of the pin isn't hardened like a 10 grade bolt, so I can't see why the torque setting is...

Today I did a bit of green laning on a local common, partly because I wanted to see how it's fared since the last time I went down it, but mostly to heat the gearbox up to see it the fault it had was fixed. The lane was dry, but much more eroded...

If you remove the propshafts, then that removes the thrust loads in the IRD. This will make it last much longer than if the propshafts are in place. Just tell your insurance company, as removing the propshafts is a chargeable modification. I've...
