Series 3 109 Station Wagon, full ground up resto and 88 redo careless resto driving project

I have just read all of your thread, your fabrication skills are very good. I am thinking of repairing my 1977 109 ex military chassis which only needs a few areas of rust cutting out, in fact the army’s under seal when chipped off reveals shiny black paint with clean metal underneath. But...

    Impact wrenches

Hi,, I bought the 896 with 400 ish nm torque for when I did not need the power of the 899, it’s an awful lot lighter when stretching to reach a bolt.

    Impact wrenches

You will not regret the DeWalt purchase, but I agree with the weight issue, maybe that’s because I’m a 63 yr old git. I recently bought the smaller 1/2 impact for when you don’t need the extra torque, bare units make sense when you all ready have batteries.

    2 post lift.

I decided it must be a four post ramp for me for reasons of safety, but after talking to tester at mot he convinced me a two post was better for access, and if I was worried about it to use props at front and rear. So I have just had a two post delivered and just need to install, I did go for one...

2.25 petrol not run for years

It just might come as a shock to drive it as it’s about 18 years since I drove a series. I’ve become used to the shall we say a more comfortable way of travel. But still in LR products.

2.25 petrol not run for years

I can see it’s putting petrol in, when I stripped carb I did not have a look at the diaphragm. I might just put the other carb on as that looks very clean inside and the current one might have a slight blockage somewhere.

2.25 petrol not run for years

Just started it pulled choke out no throttle and away it went no leak from throttle spindle either so can’t understand that. Ticking over nice and smooth tappets a bit noisy but that’s a minor detail. A bit hesitant when you push throttle, so have to look into that. I think I will keep it petrol...

2.25 petrol not run for years

Thanks,I have wondered about going that way but intend to get it running ok then make the decision of which way to go. My original intention was to fit a 300 tdi but with all this talk of petrol being the preferred choice I am not really sure which way I’ll go.

The carb is the zenith 36 iv, I will wait for points and condenser to be fitted before I do anything else. Good idea about replacing ignition components lead from coil was damp inside rubber boot even though it’s been inside for months.

2.25 petrol not run for years

It seems it’s not as simple as just putting a feed to the fuel cut off valve, can I just remove it and fit a plug, or is it not that simple.

2.25 petrol not run for years

Update, did not start very easy this morning I had to pump throttle and use full choke and it eventually started. When it started it ran very smoothly I have ordered points and condenser, plugs were a nice sandy colour so have left them alone at the moment. What is best starting procedure re the...
