IMO, coolant level is the thing to monitor, as per post#3 - since it will be this going low that will precede any overheating - other than a belt or a contained WP failure .. ( which the Alt light, and the temp gauge will indicate ). When I am...

This is what I have. A small light comes on and buzzer sounds when it senses coolant drops below the level. It also has a small button which you can use to test it.

You can't beat cheap and reliable- they are two words I like to hear together! The reason for the audible alarm is due to the horror stories I have heard about if the 300tdi loses coolant and I want mine to be a keeper and will be doing some...

Great idea, but I want an audible alarm. Also want it on the block, not the coolant!

I do like the look of those but I was worried about import tax and postal admin charges - how did you go on with those?

I do like the look of the second one as it also includes an alarm which I think is an important addition as it means you don't need to constantly watch the gauge. I am presuming a quick loss of coolant would raise the temperature quickly and...

Already done that and it was that which saved me with the rad leak. However I I don't like the stepped temperature gauge as I don't feel I am getting good feedback. I would rather have a degree C reading than cold/warm/hot/fecked!

I was thinking more of fitting to the engine block using an existing bolt.

    Independent engin temperature gauge

I have a 300tdi and I am a bit paranoid about overheating. I know the 300tdi can cook due to coolant loss as the water pump is located near the top of the engine. The original radiator when I purchased the truck had a slight hole and this almost...
