ithink the manifold gasket was the only one that was ok but i just got cheesed off and got another engine.cheers for the input

had enough and got a second hand engine pulled the engine and found a core plug out on the bellhousing side and one on the drivers side then thought i would have a look at the pistons and loosened the bolts and went to give them a we tap to help them out and they flew out the cylinders every...

probably asking a stupid question but ,here goes,what holds the two halves of the thermostat housing together should it have a clip or adhesive?

still no further forward took the other head off bit of a mess took it for re facing and the guy said the gasket had been leaking in three places i thought good thats the problem put it back on this morning and no change,so im at a loss :doh:

well head is back on done everything to the letter {i think}valves re-seated,faced and still the exact same so back to the ignition leads again could one of you nice people confirm or correct this for me please right bank standing at the front of the car 1,3,5,7and left 2,4,6,8 and coil pack...

wammers you were spot on one of the exhaust valves bent i should have seen the scratch on the top the piston so i imagine the last mob didnt push the tappets in,on that subject do you just use maybe a small socket on the end of it when its in the vice,how far should it go in

im no mechanic but it wouldnt have took much to do, all will be revealed tomorrow

would you not have to strip the head to skim it?(thanks for the info on the tappets pal) im beggining to think they have fannied the head up to look skimmed

well the head shines like a shilling but the valves look as though they have never seen the light of day,valves getting done tomorrow hopefully how do you depress the tappets

yes metal sealing ring bent over twice,but today covered valves with parafin (cheers wamers) and it ****ed out two center ones and very very slowly out the others i presume this is my problem

hey wammers you might have something there cause when i turned her over today it looked like fuel was coming out from just under the valve spring and so when i seen that i just took the head off to have a look,the head has been skimmed but one of the ports on the gasket had its metal protection...

so if i take the rocker cover off i should be able to see if the valves are closing ok ?

thats what i thought,so do you think i should just get the right hand bank off and have a look
