I had to get narrower bushes. The Britpart ones measured 40mm plus four spacers 6mm plus the thickness of the suspension plate 3mm Total 49mm and the end spigot on the unit is only 52mm.

Well it up and running again. New head and gasket - turbo is fine. Thanks for your help and advice.

The head gasket had gone. Head off, no other damage, turbo and intercooler full of oil. Three injectors came out with a struggle the fourth one is stuck fast! Took it to an engineering works, they couldn't shift it. Therefore I can't have the head skimmed New head required about £300. Ouch!!!

Hmmm that's the bit I'm not sure of. I thought that would be the case, but I'd like confirmation before I try it. I'm also guessing it's the head gasket, there's a fair amount of oil on the block at the front near side at the head joint.
