Thankyou for your reply Nodge68. Yep I always wait for the system check to complete before starting. I didn`t do anything different on Sunday compared to all the other times I started the car. The battery was replaced with a new Bosch S4 008 battery two days prior to the journey.

Just found these on Ebay, listed as BMW MINI Audi VW Ford Battery VOLVO MB Cable Clamp Securing 10mm T Bolt and Nut. Looks like they might do the job so have ordered a couple :)

I think you are probably right. Just another thought, I did try coupling the two parts together before uncoupling then coupling back together again before fitting into the vent flap, this gave me the assurance the two parts should clip together when fitted to the vent flaps. As mentioned...
