Sporadic Won't start and No Cranking

Thanks both, I took the header liner down yesterday, and removed the RF receiver. Its earth contact is grimy so I'm going to clean it up with wire wool first to see if that does any good. If not, I'll buy a new RF receiver.

Sporadic Won't start and No Cranking

An update, some background and some further questions please: I've done the easy stuff: the key solder all looks good. I've checked the internal fuse box for corrosion = none. I've also monitored the battery: After running for half an hour the voltage is 13.3 V. The morning after it is a steady...

Sporadic Won't start and No Cranking

Thanks once again, That is good to know. During the problems with my car, the immobiliser alarm has not sounded. Shouldn't it have done so as I opened the door manually and tried to start the car?

Sporadic Won't start and No Cranking

Thanks All, That is brilliant. It has given me something to have a go at. It is particularly good to know that as the fob doesn't work it immediately becomes immobilised when opened by the key. I've only ever had one key, so thought it would be beneficial to get one anyway, and would rule out...

Sporadic Won't start and No Cranking

No, different places. I drove it into town twice and parked in different places. Each time when I switched off the engine the locking wouldn't operate and the engine wouldn't start. Approx. two hours of resting, then it works. When I drove back home (ca. 30 minutes drive), it had the same fault...

Sporadic Won't start and No Cranking

Can someone please offer suggestions as to what might be the cause of a strange fault that has developed on my D2 TD5? This came about when I drove it, stopped, turned off the engine and locked the doors. When I came back to the car the electronic key wouldn't open the doors. I opened the...

Discovery 2 Advice on Brake Servicing

Maybe it was the copper grease (?) or maybe I left it too long between servicing the brakes (13 months), but I have serviced them today and one wheel (front near side) had slider trouble. Its upper slider didn't move much but I freed it, but the lower pin was seized up. It is seized up good and...

    Disco 2 Handbrake - a few questions

Thanks. I'll check the drum after my next use of the vehicle, and will back of the handbrake adjuster to see if that helps.

Disco 2 How do you fit the ****ing A pillar trims?

I ultimately got the windscreen company to come back and remedy the mess they left. They sent a different fitter who had both pillar trims on properly in five minutes. There is clearly a knack it. And, this has totally cured water ingress.

    Disco 2 Handbrake - a few questions

I have hesitated posting this, since the obvious response is to take the handbrake drum off and have a look, but I don't have a pit or ramps, and my site is not level ground, so I'm trying to find out what might be the cause before I get the rear end jacked up and crawl underneath: The OP...

    Discovery 2 Part Identification Request

Brilliant. Thanks so much. I took the carpets up because they were wet and I was trying to identify the water ingress point. This has also now been resolved.

    Discovery 2 Part Identification Request

Can someone please suggest where this part goes on a Discovery 2, so I can put it back!? I took out both front carpets, which also meant taking the seats out and the centre console. After I put things back together, this was left over. The only mark on the black bar is a letter "R". I assume...

    Identifying Parts

I've spent too long over the four years that I've had a Discovery 2 trying to identify part numbers. Can someone please tell me whether there is a way to cross reference this (which shows all the parts, but doesn't show the numbers): https://new.lrcat.com/#!/1232/35775/35776/2715 With this...

Disco 2 How do you fit the ****ing A pillar trims?

You are absolutely right, but there are a number of factors which put me off doing this: 1. The fitter is in Inverness which is 120 miles from where I live. It doesn't bother me that they'd have to make the long trip, just it is not easy for me to, and I don't have time nor motivation to...

Disco 2 How do you fit the ****ing A pillar trims?

Also, does anyone have a photo of which way round the spring clips go? My situation is that I had a windscreen fitted through my insurance, to find that the fitter didn't install one pillar trim correctly (none of the clips were affixed), he left holes at the edges of the gutters, and he didn't...

Disco 2 How do you fit the ****ing A pillar trims?

I'm having the same issue as the original poster. But have been unable to do it after sleeping on the problem. I wouldn't part with my Disco 2, and would hate to have to replace it. But, I just cannot properly re-fit these A-pillar trims. The video doesn't show whether there is any gap at the...

    Multiple water leaks Discovery 2

Good thread and some nice welding. I am currently trying to solve the same issue: water ingress at the outer edge of both front footwells on my Discovery 2. On comments about the "inner wing to bulkhead area as a culprit", is this due to water splashing up from the wheel arch while driving in...

    Side Finisher Spring Clips

I'm trying to locate the source of water ingress from the front of my Discovery 2 TD5. Well, I say from the front, specifically it is evident as continuously wet patches on the outer sides of both front seat carpets, but I haven't yet traced where it is coming in. Having recently had a new...
