anyone know how to identify gearboxes from there serial numbers, trying to work out which suffice i got to get bits.

hi all i'm a mad nutter currently rebuilding a series 3 shorty, have often read through forums looking 4 advice, so decided to join the madhouse

Right i'm in the middle of a rebuild of my shorty it's a 82 swb so it has the twin cylinded 11" front brakes, any ideas for upgrading the rear? I have a spare set of twin 11" fronts and drums any ideas if these will work on rear axle friend has suggested putting them on but wrong way round so...
