Freelander 1 Clutch release shaft (1.8 petrol PG1 'box)

Need a sense check as I think I'm going mad. Anyone else fitted a modified PG1 (for 1.8 petrol) clutch release arm from MG Mania? They're the ones with a grease nipple to ensure the shaft remains properly lubricated. On trial fit I discovered that the lubrication channels extend beyond the...

Freelander 1 Clutch release shaft seized. 2004 1.8 petrol FL1

I love the Haynes sentence, "Slide the lever and shaft out through the casing and the release fork." Ha ha ha ha yeah. Is there a secret circlip retaining it? It will move (rotational) a bit if I belt the release arm with a mallet, and back again with a pry bar, but I know it should move...

Freelander 1 Crankshaft oil seal (2004 K series petrol)

After clutch fail, probably caused by release shaft not returning properly, I had the flywheel off to get it inspected. General consensus is its within limits so, that's going back on. While this is off is it good practice to replace the crankshaft oil seal, or just leave it be if it doesn't...

Freelander 1 1.8 petrol - Clutch and flywheel replacement advice

After a recent clutch failure I have finally managed to remove all the various components necessary to get at the clutch and flywheel. My god, what a ball ache of a job! Feels like you have to disassemble the whole car! When the bell housing first separated from the engine a dribble of clean...

Freelander 1 Frustrating morning belting the propshaft.

I've seen the videos on YouTube and it looked so simple! Removed the propshaft in order to replace the VCU mounting/bearings which are shot. Got the complete unit on the bench, and I now need the magic spell that is required in order to separate the two shafts from the VCU. Stopped for lunch...

    Haynes manual understatement...

For my first post*, an amusing tale of woe... (which appears to be quite common round these parts!) I have a post 2004 facelift model Freelander 1 with the super popular 1.8 petrol lump (yes, sarcasm!) This year after having a garage service my cars for many years, I decided to once again do...

Long time lurker finally signed up!

Just a hello from a long time lurker. Had my 1.8 Freelander for nearly two years. Would rather have a nice old Rangey, or a V8 air portable, but this does for running about in. I promise I won't ask about Freelander VCU's. [ducks and runs!]
