    Odd problem (carburettors)

Me too, but it looks like you are going for a strip down and clean up anyway, rather than just getting them working quickly. I just hope that your work with taking them to bitz and ultrasonically cleaning them doesn't end up with you having to retune them too much.

That should do it, similar to the one I have been trying to find a pic of for the past, how long? If you turn the engine so the piston is at the top you won't need to worry about the valve falling down into the cylinder!! It'll drop, but not by far!!

Could be stuck needle float valves. As others have said, they are simple and loads of stuff ont tinternet to help you strip and rebuild them. I doubt rebuild kits are too expensive, but replacement ones sure would be!! They are very easy to rebuild as there is so little to them. Just taking...

Just to be sure that it is blue smoke, and nowt else like white smoke? I bought a special tool to change the valve stem oil seals without being forced to take the head off or risk springs, collets etc flying around. I'll have a search for a pic of one for you. As for the lodgers, hope...

We buy barometers every now and then in mixed lots from auctions and sometimes because we like the look of them. Of all the ones we have, about 5, only one works. And we took one that we really like to a specialist to fix, he charged us £100 and still didn't fix it!! Grrrr! You can buy cheap...
