My FL1 has also TD4 and it also turns new engine oil black very soon after the last oil change. My D2 TD5 doesn't.

I think that is the best thing a car can get. What I don't get is why would you change the filter in steps 4 and then again in step 6?

Already did one using generic rough mat material, cut it to shape of the boot but wasn't satisfied with the material itself. I'd want to save the rear footwells as they are, because they hold bags and stuff in place when driving but want to cover the oem boot carpet with something that doesn't...

So this is what I'm looking for. Unfortunately no international shipping.

Do you know a source (with international shipping) for a boot mat that covers the whole floor to the rear footwell? I have removed the rear seat and using FL1 as a van, so those widely available boot mats are too short.

Cleaned the gunk off the AC control knobs. Acetone in rag first and then Autoglym vinyl & rubber care. Looks much better.

Did a 1100 kilometers tour with my 2000 D2. It was a bird hunting trip with my pointer. Diesel consumption was 9,5l/100km, lot's of 100 km/h driving. It's TD5 manual, mild lift and 235/85R16 AT tyres.

Checked the IRD oil level. Last time was a year ago. This LR must a special edition because it doesnt leak anything. It's also a pleasure to do maintenance when it is not done by professionals but by myself. For example the IRD level plug is not overtightened and rounded.

I think it did work. Even if I have to do this twice a year. New facelift headlight units are several hundred euros per side so 18€ per year to keep those originals clear is really cheap.

The kit had somekind of ceramic UV coating that was applied after polishing. But cheap fix, probably won't last forever.

Did a headlight restoration using Turtle Wax kit for my 2004 TD4. Both headlights had a lot of this cloudiness. Didn't wait that much for a 18€ kit but have to say headlights are really clear and bright now. Let's see how long this lasts.

Both. Lot's of salt on the main roads. Northern Finland has very arctic winters, so there they can't use that much salt (it works only around 0 degrees) but here in southern Finland it is used excessively unfortunately. It is mandatory to use winter tyres here and of course we are used to drive...

That counts for sure. I'm also over maintaining my old cars and they typically pass our yearly inspection we have to do here in Finland with clean papers. Just had both FL1 and D2 inspected in a couple of weeks.

Started to hear very light knocking sound from right front corner when driving slowly on dirt roads. Today investigated and as I guessed it was the drop link; the upper joint had some play in it. My local parts dealer didn't have Meyle HD drop links so had to buy a pair of TRW drop links...

A good well maintained Freelander is a rare thing for sure. Mostly they are abandoned maintenance wise. So if you like it, keep it. I don't know anything better than a car that you have been maintaining and know well. Buying a used car you buy all the other people's problems with it.

Passed our yearly vehicle inspection (equals MOT in UK) with clean papers with my FL1 2004 TD4 Sport.
