    P38A [P38] MOT Fail - Emissions

Haven't heard back from the garage today (despite telling me they'd ring - classic). There's another garage a bit further which has all the LR diagnostic equipment, so I've booked it in with them later this week. Hopefully all will become clear then. Thanks, wasn't sure about this - got lots of...

    P38A [P38] MOT Fail - Emissions

It's at the station right now so I can't take a look yet - I did mention the lambda sensors, but they said they were '100% confident' the cats are at fault. They said they would have to change all 4 lambda sensors to be able to rule that out, and I'd be looking at 4-500 quid to give that a try...

    P38A [P38] MOT Fail - Emissions

MOT station has just rang - they reckon there could be an issue with the cats. Said they sounded hollow when they tapped them. Is there a quick way to diagnose this?

    P38A [P38] MOT Fail - Emissions

I've got an OBD reader but it's one of the cheapy/generic ones, what values should I be comparing with? O2 sens voltage?

    P38A [P38] MOT Fail - Emissions

Morning, Just took mine in for an MOT. It failed on suspension wear and emissions: Exhaust carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle exceeds default limits (8.2.1.2 (b)) Exhaust Lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits (8.2.1.2 (c)) Exhaust carbon monoxide content at idle...

    [P38] Exhaust gases in coolant

Thanks! Been out today and drove about 20 miles total, all seems to be good so far. I did smell some burning from under the bonnet, maybe because the heat shields are off? I tried to check the coolant level when I got home, but now my bonnet won't open 😑 only pops on the passenger side!

Unrelated question, but does anyone know what this connector is for? Been hanging disconnected since I got the rover. Driver side of the boot lining.

    [P38] Exhaust gases in coolant

Top hose was cold and squishy this morning. No obvious leaks either, so fingers crossed. Next issue is why my battery doesn't last more than a few hours, but I'll save that for another thread

    [P38] Exhaust gases in coolant

I'm guessing it should still be hard by the morning if the pressure is holding?

    [P38] Exhaust gases in coolant

I haven't got asbestos fingers either, it's a very quick squeeze to avoid 2nd degree burns to my fingertips 😆

    [P38] Exhaust gases in coolant

Top hose is hard but not rock solid - there is a small amount of give when it gets a good squeeze

    [P38] Exhaust gases in coolant

Just been for a 10 minute drive. Temps idling between 90-91, max 92. I'll keep an eye on the levels and for any leaks. Only thing that concerns me - assuming the OBD tool is correct - what kind of damage could have occured if the temps were actually at 118ish?

    [P38] Exhaust gases in coolant

That was too expensive 😆 Hopefully the coolant doesn't spill out when I hoover the carpet next...

    [P38] Exhaust gases in coolant

Just had another go. I taped the end of my hoover up and created a makeshift slot for the rad bleed pipe: And after I filled up to the neck of the bottle, I stuck the hoover on for a few seconds. The level in the expansion bottle quickly dropped, so I topped it up to the neck again. Hoover...

    [P38] Exhaust gases in coolant

I've got 1/2 the vacuum kit, just missing a compressor :( I did blow through the hose too. I'll have another go today

    [P38] Exhaust gases in coolant

Would it be unwise to put the hose directly in to the cabin heater pipe and give it a good blast?

    [P38] Exhaust gases in coolant

I believe I followed the RAVE method: - Drained as much as I could via rad plug - Slowly filled expansion tank with a hose on a small stream - Started engine, monitored level, waited for thermo to open - Stopped engine, waited for it to cool, topped up expansion tank again. I believe that's...

    [P38] Exhaust gases in coolant

Just been out again and ran it for a while with the cap off to let any air escape. Still idled in the middle of the temp gauge. I noticed that the right side pipe to the cabin was hot, but the left side pipe was not. Possible air in the cabin loop?

    [P38] Exhaust gases in coolant

Just went out again and topped up the water. Ran for about 10 minutes, temperature reading on the device was in the high 90s, possibly very slowly creeping up. Dash temp gauge in the middle. Noticed the blowers weren't that hot, so possible that there's still air trapped somewhere. Is there...

Needle was in the middle on the temp gauge. Don't say that now - I don't want another warped head on my hands!
