What did you do with your Range Rover today

One of the reasons I'll propably never get a RRC beyond the 1984 MY, a Disco 1 or a Defender past the early 80s is all the elcetrical stuff! I like those three fuses!

Ah, thise dreaded electronics! Mechanically, new cars are as good as it gets. The electronics on the other hand... One problem there and you are screwed.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Doesn't surprise me. I had a chat with the nice service rep from the JLR garage that services my wife's XE. For all major brands, VW, BMW, Peugeot, you name it, there will always be someone to be hired who knows those cars, maybe even the older ones. For neiche brands, Volvo, Jaguar, Saab (they...

Without proper training, no garage in their right minds will let one of their employees touch one of those.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Come on guys, some rules around old engine oil and other car fluid recycling are good. I don't want people to dump 6 liters of engine oil into the ground. The way around the EU rule to have easy access to ligh bulps, and yes that EU rule does exist, are LED head light boxes. As a private...

Unless you are fully qualified HV electrician I wouldn't touch an EV in the first place. Not illegal so, just stupid. And EV or not, exactly much can a DIY mechanic do on a, say, 2020 Golf?

    Weak Spark - Why?

Good luck! I'm almost done doing all that on mine. Good thing, once it is done, it is good for another 10-15 years! Also worth checking the cam shaft, the original ones wear out after 70k km or so, and so slowly that you don't necessarily realize it.

    Weak Spark - Why?

Should be on the left side, next to to oil dip stick if memory serves well.

Did some maths regarding parts, garage costs and the like. Normally I would never do that, so far besides the initial purchase yeaes ago everything just felw under the radar expense wise. And yes, I know how priviledged a posituon it is to just burn a bunch thousands a year on car without...

Other Just for a laugh - Broken Crank Repair ??

Repairs that get you from where the crank breaks to a place you can install a new one. Very usefull when travelling to those countries, nothing you would use long term.

Does it have an airflow sensor?

    New 2003 L322

Just out of curiosity, because one of our daily driver might need replacement in a year or two, what are the main weaknesses of the L322? Because those TD6 with around 200,000 km go for around 7-8 k in Germany. Would be a nice car to commute 300 km a week, not to expensive to buy and being a...

Lack of power in 4th and 5th gear.

+1 on the turbo hoses, can be a leak, it disconnected or sinply desintegrated. As she did have full power before loosing it again, maybe a leak or a loose hose. Had that on one of our other cars, also a turbo diesel engine.

    New 2003 L322

For that price, I would have bought it without asking for permission! The new harnesses for my RRC cost more. All the luck in the world is hereby wished! And congrats on the purchase!

Classic Wiring a 13 Pin Trailer Socket - properly and as intended

Just for the record, I think I figured out what the interior lighting contact is used for, it is (cpupd be) the constant plus. In case of 13 pin sockets, 7 pin sockets don't have one. Either way, I might just use it as a constant plus, saves me one cable. And if I leave the fridge pin of a 13...

Classic Wiring a 13 Pin Trailer Socket - properly and as intended

I know that grill, looks goofy if you ask me. And those additional headlights obstruct air flow to the radiator. Another issue just came up, the manual window regulators are obsolete... Which means I somehow have to make the electric windows work again, after having removed the wiring in a less...

Classic Wiring a 13 Pin Trailer Socket - properly and as intended

Those modern 7 pin sockets have nothing I would connect to the interior lights... Those have indicator lights, brake lights, fog lights, tail lights and a negative... Weird, really weird

Classic Wiring a 13 Pin Trailer Socket - properly and as intended

She is registered as a commercial towing vehicle in the papers with a towing limit, pneumatic break system being installed, of 6.5 tons... Well, the suspension is certainly good! A bunch of things so far: Two wire colors differ between the Autospark harness and the wiring diagram, the one from...

Classic Wiring a 13 Pin Trailer Socket - properly and as intended

Well, it can if someone made all the necessary mods, the pneumatic break and compressor have been removed by now, and got it registered as such. Lucky me one of the previous owners did! The trailer indicator light is behind the printed circuit in the dash, so I assume that is going to work as...

Classic Wiring a 13 Pin Trailer Socket - properly and as intended

Behind the dash, all the wires should have been original, I didn't check when I dismantled which wire went were, but especially behind the speedo assembly there are not that many options. We'll see when I'm done, jist need to put already two properly colored cables from the split battery to...
