What did you do with your Range Rover today

No, didn't solve that. Decided that this wholeix-matching is just a pain, and will result in a bunch of missing parts and parts I cannot use. Considered a pegged housing, new pinion and crown wheel, parts and a rebuild kit for bearings and such. Almost the same price as a complete unit, and at...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

So, spent my lunch break while working from home to check something under the car. Pulled myself out grabbing the front propshaft. Managed to turn it by hand appr. 20 degrees. The rear one is tack solid. Means the front diff is shot, but not leaking. The rear one is leaking but not shot. Well...

    Classic Questions regarding the future

Good news, the cat is back! She limps, but is otherwise fine. She sits in drive way bow, guarding the entrance. If I counted correctly, it is life 3 that is gone. Maybe even number four. She sure lives dangerously!😅🥰 In other news, I found out what one of the holes in dash is for: A lights on...

    Classic Questions regarding the future

Quick googling told me that the white one goes to the top connector, linking the starter mortor to the coil. Makes sense, given the wire color. Apparently not necessary, I'll still fit a new female connector to wire everything up properly. As for the fuel sender unit, green-black to the forward...

    Classic Questions regarding the future

Done for today. The black and purple wire is for a, according to the workshop manual, optional hand brake indicator. So I left that one unconnected. The starter motor wiring and the speedo cable were a hell of a job so. Mostly done after all. Missing wiring: Starter motor, there is a...

    Classic Questions regarding the future

Done for today, weather and bad connectors won. To be continued next week for the alternator and after vacation for everything else. I need a bullet crimping tool, and that sounds like a nice souvenir from Scotland! Just some questions regarding wiring: There is a black-purple wire on the...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

So, no quick fixes. Couple of reasons: some of the connectors of the head lamps and side indicators are not great, so to do it propably bullet connectors are the way to go. Then there I need to plug a new wire between the fuel pump connector on the engine harness, ending up on top of the...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

That'll be a quick fix, I'll simply attach different connectors to the old wiring. That'll have to do for now.

    Classic Questions regarding the future

Lunch, and rain, break update: the main and engine harnesses are out. No idea why one would attach the engine harness using a inlet manifold bolt so. Anyway, the engine harness is more difficult than the main one, I did not expect that. Regarding installation, the main harness really passes...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Spot the problem... And those cheap 12 connectors I have defenitely wont cut it. Guess I need a new crimp set for that...

    Classic Questions regarding the future

According to Royal Mail, the manual regulators should arrive early next week. Soon enough. And somehow I am done with electrics once the wire are in! 😁

    Classic Questions regarding the future

Damn, forgot one thing. The electric wondows are removed. So I need at least a manual one for the driver side befire I can go to pass TÜV. Ordered one of eBay, we'll see when they are delivered. Hopefully next week!

    Classic Questions regarding the future

Well, the "What did you do today ..." thread is not the best place to track all the wiring stiry. So here an update and summary so far: All cables are identified and the routing as well. The rear harness is in, the main harness passes comfortably behind the heater unit and the only dirty and...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

All the cables are now identified! Tomorrow the instllation and testing, Sunday reassembly of everything. If it works, TÜV next week!

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Yeah, there was a whole in the piece between the windshield and the bonnet for an antenna for the after market radio. Quite likely the water is slowly dripping down the cable, the antenna is still but will have to go as well.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Prep day to tackle the main harness tomorrow. That meant removing the front carpets, seat and cubby box. Turnes out you do NOT have to remove the heater unit, the harness passes well between the heat the bulkhead. Also, all connections to the gear box, diff, hand break, reverse and the like, are...

    Classic Pinion Flange Size Question

I'll give Ashcroft a call one of these days, they should know. Seems the compatibility of RRCs and Disco 1s, and between early 2-door RRCs, later RRCs and those post 1985, only goes so far. A pity the workshop manuals do not come with technical drawing for the parts.

    Classic Pinion Flange Size Question

Just a quick question regarding pinion flanges. And diffs. Back the day when I bought a Truetrac for the rear axle, I also ordered a HD pinion and crown wheel set. Didn't realize that those only match the later 24 spline pinion flanges. Two questions: Can the later crown wheel be fitted to a...
