If you crack off the bleed screw , and use the lever to draw fuel from tank that’s what I do , although takes a bit of priming If the lever not doing anything it means the pump lever has been moved by the cam lobe so you can’t get the full pump so you need to turn the engine slightly to move...

8 seconds is good not a problem mine took much longer , trick is to keep it turning until it starts proper foot fully down on accelerator pedal to get the air in cylinders to get it compressed

I seen a tip not long back how to get driveshafts out, think it was turn shaft until wire clip has open ends at bottom so clip sits further in groove at top before pulling out, obviously it’s a bit trial and error as to where the clip is so keep turning and pulling

It’s possible, but needs a lot of cranking, how long was yours turning over before it started

If you have a look at the series 3 workshop manual in the link below that’s essential to maintain properly It has the wiring diagrams in there too to check what the dangly wires are for Your starting problem sounds like bad connection/ poor earths I would start at the starter solenoid and clean...

On my series getting box out used a plank between seats and dash to take strain and got it out the passenger door, to put back in built an A frame with scaffolding and got a hoist. Looks like you got a hoist too hanging up not sure on yours but an option could be engine out and boxes at same...

Yes take them off clean up wire brush/ emery cloth till bright and shiny including the earths , fully charge battery then try again , next stop,solenoid. Voltage does drop a lot when cranking not that much though

Are you losing brake fluid, make you top up before drive back

Those halfshafts look fine both ends not burred over apart from outside of circlip groove
