Update.... having stripped it down now, actually only 1 bolt was totally missing, 2 had heads sheared off, with the threads still in the water pump flange, and one remaining bolt still holding.....just, and rather bent.

As far as I'm aware spec for R380's was upgraded from ATF to MTF, because ATF wasn't providing enough lubrication, same for Disco's as my P38 of a similar age. Don't think it should be a problem, indeed it should be an improvement.

Having not long got car back together after rad blew, was trundling along when there was a rattle at front end, within seconds I got an alternator warning on dash, and pulled over, engine off a bit sharpish etc. Quick look under bonnet revealed frayed drive belt. Got home and looked a bit deeper...

It's manual, auto wouldn't suffer same problem with it's seperate cooler element.

After big battle with the gearbox drain plug (clearly hadn't been moved since car left factory):mad:, I drained box and ended up with 1/2 and 1/2 coolant and MTF:eek:! No sign of emulsified fluid, so hopefully draining and refilling will be enough. Fluid was good and clear too, no signs of...

Bemble's right, it seems to think you're trying to switch ranges, could be a faulty switch/sensor.

Mine got a ride home courtesy of RAC at weekend, after rad popped! Thankfully evidence so far is head is intact.

No real way to know, you can either try new gasket and see what happens, with the risk of needing to do it again, or take head and get it checked before reassembly.
