Cleaning rocker assembly and top of heads in situ?

Hi All I have a 96 P38 4.6 and am changing the valley and rocker gaskets as I have an oil weep that is making a bit of a mess in places and started to smoke a very little on the rear of one bank is it drips on the exhaust. While in there I have noticed that despite regular oil changes with name...

P38A Dash swapped out, wobbly seat and more

Sorry, should have included pics. but it would be of the knackered dash, no dash at all then new dash. Still may do that. I did manage to thoroughly clean under the bonnet as in under the air box, EAS box, fuse box etc..... Nice and shiny now I Will post some of the other repairs later.

P38A Dash swapped out, wobbly seat and more

Hi All Long time no posts. My 1996 436 HSE has had a knackered dash for a long time. Various issues are (ere) as follows: South African heat and the sun seemed to warp the pad in early life, particularly around-the-clock binnacle and the demist vents under the windscreen. The pad was damaged by...

    Ramp/Lift in the Wiltshire/Hampshire area

Hi thanks. I am starting to think the same for a majority of it. The main concern I have is giving a welder enough room to weld the front chassis rails with the subframe still in situ. I may be able to undo it and let it swing down (supporting the engine) and but then I think there is even less...

    Ramp/Lift in the Wiltshire/Hampshire area

Hi Guys I hope you are all well. I am looking to borrow or rent a ramp/lift in the Hampshire/Wiltshire area. Does anybody know of one I can borrow to pop a Jag on? I need to lower the front subframe on my XJ and get a little welding done on the chassis rails by the V mounts. I plan to do the...

P38A V8 Auto ATF recommendations - Comma AQM?

No real sense from the oil selectors. So Manual asks for DIID or DIII. AQM fits DIID, AQ3 fits DIII but then according to 2 sites its not recommended. Looking like the AQM then, at least that matches the DIID.

P38A V8 Auto ATF recommendations - Comma AQM?

Oh weird. After settling on a DIII, I thought I would double check a few oil selector sites and Halfords says it is not recommended to use AQ3 and recommends AQM as I originally said. Comma's oil selector says the same. JGS4x4 sell a service kit with the filter and 10 litres of AQM. Things are...

P38A V8 Auto ATF recommendations - Comma AQM?

Thanks guys. Going for the Comma Dex 3, they make reasonable products and are in the UK, plus the Dex 3 seems to be the way to go.

P38A V8 Auto ATF recommendations - Comma AQM?

Comma Aq3 says "Dexron® II; Dexron® IID; Dexron® IIE; Dexron® III" and is semi-synth for £28 for 5L. Could be the one, but still hunting for others, not necessarily the cheapest.

P38A V8 Auto ATF recommendations - Comma AQM?

The Comma data sheet says "Dexron® B; Dexron®II; Dexron®IID". It does not mention DIII. Maybe better off looking for DIII like the other guys say..... Cheers

P38A V8 Auto ATF recommendations - Comma AQM?

Hi guys I am thinking of doing a fluid change in the auto gearbox. It's been about 5 years, so due for a change, and a new filter. Are the gearboxes R380s? it's a 1996. The owner's manual says DexIID or III. I am thinking of Comma AQM which is a mineral ATF and claims to be DexIID. I cannot...

EAS Pump rebuild and mod with pics.

Hi All Just a quick update on this. I can still recommend this repair/upgrade. It's been running like this for about 8 years now and just recently started making grumbling sounds. However, it is still running. Rebuilding the other one donated to me with new bearing plus some new seals and...

    P38A Passed another MOT

Oooooooooooooooooooo. looks like it is maybe best to go with Dexron II and not III. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/transfer-box-oil-dexron11d-or-dexron-111.133952/ Or is that just the transfer box? But: https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/auto-atf-dexron-2-or-3.200035/

P38A Getting the alternator back in.

I just squirted with my preferred penetrating oil (whichever I find to hand) and rocked mine back and forth until it loosened up, also used a length of wood to pry the whole thing. I went for a new Voltage regulator on mine as the alternator itself was fine (not bad for a 24-year-old Magneto...

    P38A Passed another MOT

I just wanted to share the good news. My faithful 1996 4.6 HSE has made it through another MOT. One advisory, drag link closest to the steering box has some excess play. Ordered a new one ready to fit once I can find the time. Gone for the full drag link (instead of just the end) as I suspect...

    P38A Replacement alternator AMR2938

News, it's fitted. The VR, no new diode pack installed. Just cleaned up slip rings and in general. Instantly 14.2V rising to 14.5v and just at idle, not at 2K and not tested on load with headlights. I was already impressed enough at the increase in volts. PLUS, my "alternator fault" message...

    P38A Replacement alternator AMR2938

Just a quick update on my situation. Partly for the sake of an update, partly as I noticed my post count is 666  and so I thought it best not to leave it there too long. My voltage measured at the battery terminals @ 2000 rpm is 13.8V and slowly rises to 13.9V.but does not go above. I...

    P38A Replacement alternator AMR2938

That is what I am going to do. It's an easy job to take it off compared to what I just went through on my Jag. At least I can remain standing. :-)
