Anything I can do to stop/lessen the drip?

Hi all, I have a 1989 110 CSW thatis fitted with a 200tdi. My motor kept the 2.5TD air fiter assembly, which still sits in its original location. My air filters rubber fanny has developed a hefty drip, which leaves a stain on the ground whenever I stop the vehicle. Any idea? Thanks Tom

Could the pointed bit where the spring is attached to on the bonnet has locked itself into the cup that is in the front panel? Is there a sliding mechanism that was previously operated by the cable that is holding it shut? This is all I could imagine it could be. I've never had the problem...
