Not sure there are any 55/06 1.8's. Rover went belly up in 2005 and the engine manufacturer Power Train went with them. Im pretty sure the last 12 months of Freelander 1 production was TD4 only!

Since the K Series is well known for having head gasket problems and the TD4 isnt then i suggest that you are far more likely to run up £800 than i am. Yes i bought an ex demonstrator 1.8 on a 54 in 2005, nice car no problems with it but i was waiting for the head gasket to go so i traded it in...

We had a petrol a few years back, it averaged about 27mpg, if i remember correctly the official figures are 21 around town 27 average 32 on a run or how ever they put it these days. So if you are nipping to the papershop and not going very far the 20mpg, would be about right. If you want 30+ mpg...
