I bought one of these, its gets in there alright, and it works on damaged nipples.

But whenever I buy new prop bearings, I always fit extended nipples.
I'm about to do the same job on my 2002 Defender.
Am I right in thinking if you take out the three M8 bolts, soak in penetrating oil and persuade it with a hammer, then you can replace the lower steering column without removing the PAS box or upper column ?
They are a ****e design really, no way are they waterproof.
Also I've had quite a few bad connections on new trailer plugs where the insulation hasn't been cut off before the terminal screws are tightened.
I was jammy enough to win some tickets to CarFest South . The Bowler defender was there . Put some KM2's on there and I'd have one :D.

My lad approved too...
All's well now.
My cracked cylinder head was welded up by the very nice man on eb*y. See piccy (no.1 injector bore).
Did everything else myself and so far so good.
:D
Winch bumper fitted too now, just need a Bowmotor for the winch.
Let's off road :p
I cant imagine that a 2 inch lift kit will help your ride and handling at all.
But for green laning and 'field driving', I'd start with decent recovery points front and rear, a good tow rope and some Mud Terrains.
Sounds a really good idea but, seems odd that you can just change the pistons, crank and machining. I'd also expect some significant changes to fuelling (injection system, CAC, and turbo) and can the transmission handle the additional torque?
I haven't been there for years. It was a good site then... loads of high grip axle twisters, tracks through jungle-like bushes, swamp, steep climbs and not much in the way of rules or marshalls :D
I'd like to go but I'm waiting to get my cylinder head welded up :(.
Is there a list of...
I took off my cylinder head and now found the crack, barely visible to the eye where the no.1 injector o-ring sits. So I'll be getting it welded up and back up and running soon :D
Great. I'd read the Haynes also and figured it wasn't too bad. and yeah obviously access to bearings is from underneath. Was yours filling up the sump or was there other symptoms?
Cheers for the advise. I'll get my head off at the weekend and get it tested. Was it a difficult job to replace the head ? (I've done plenty of heads, but never a TD5) Did you bother changing big end shells?
