The Little Discovery That Could (financially ruin me)

I just noticed that postage on that item is £14. Absolute **** take. Shop around, you'll find much more reasonable prices. That was just the first one I found with a quick Google.

Freelander 1 My 4th Freelander. What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

I'm not fussed about the front seats being 5 door ones and I'm probably going to remove the back seats to restore the load space. It's just me and the missus and we very rarely have passengers. When her car is back on the road we'll have a sensible 5 seater for if we ever need that. I thought...

Probably didn't realise you can get a socket through the hole in the back of it to undo the bolt on the turbo housing. Looks like you need a new connecting hose for the oil cooler. In case you haven't found one already...

Freelander 1 My 4th Freelander. What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

Cheers. I am acttually pretty happy with it. The guy I bought it off is a friend of mine in the local Landy club and he did loads of good work to it for it's MOT. He even supplied the handbrake cables free as he was a little embarrased that the handbrake was seized when I picked it up.

Freelander 1 My 4th Freelander. What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

After swearing off Freelanders a few years ago I now find myself with Freelander number four. It's out of necessity, not desire, though. My wife's car has been out of commission for a while and will be for some time longer so we were in need of something to keep her going in the meantime. This...

    Looks great. Nice finish.

    Flat Bed Disco 2 Project

The tow bar is done now. Turned out to be a bit more of a mission than expected. When I offered up the old Disco tow bar it fouled on the underside of the bumper. So I had to take it off and cut about an inch off each side of the cut-out in the bumper to clear it. While I had the bumper off I...

    Flat Bed Disco 2 Project

Some much needed maintenance on the steering has been done. The steering box started leaking from the pitman arm seal shortly after I got PD on the road and the steering has been getting incrementally more woolly since. It was getting too bad to put off any longer so I took the steering box out...

    Steve's disco 2 rebuild

Going like a train thanks. Got some updates to post soon.

    Steve's disco 2 rebuild

Back bumper looks very rugged and well made. It'll probably outlast every Disco ever built. Looking forward to seeing them both finished and fitted. No doubt they'll look awesome.

A Defender top shock mount poly bush cut carefully in half fits nicely in the watts linkage centre bush cavity. Did it on mine for a "temporary" fix for the MOT. That was about six months ago and it's still fine. Gets hammered off road so they're doing a good job.

Is it an auto? It might be a start switch. When the xyz switch plays up it can be difficult to start. I had that and just wired a switch direct from the battery to the starter motor solenoid. Got me out of many a pickle.

    Flat Bed Disco 2 Project

Just a quick update: finally got my V5 back with all the changes logged!! It's only taken three and a half months. Seems like much longer. I may start a thread in the Disco section detailing my legal journey if anyone's interested.

A few pictures of what I get up to with Project Disco for fun. Shetland Land Rover Club fun day yesterday.

So I bought another RR the other day......

Looks like even if you decide to make it an 18 wheeler it'll still fit on that trailer with room to spare.

    Flat Bed Disco 2 Project

Rock sliders now fitted. These were were fitted to my other disco and I've modified them to fit Project Disco. I needed to cut approx 4" off each end to make them the right length then make new end plates and weld them on. Once that was done I took them to a local blasting company and got them...

Mad LWB disco idea (Now ultimate overlanding disco thread of rubbish

IVA wouldn't be required but you'd need to go down the "radically altered vehicle" route which isn't really that onerous. I'm going through this process myself currently. Using the 130 chassis and original drive train would give enough points to keep the 130 reg. This is assuming no major mods...

Lack of ARBs isn't an MOT fail. I built mine without them and have HD springs and adjustable dampers. Still handles acceptably on road.

    Disco 2 Long Ranger

Nice project. Looking forward to seeing it progress. I went the flat bed route with mine.

There's an air compressor unit mounted to the outside of the chassis rail under the passenger side for the air bags, if it's still there.
