Hi. It looks like a blanking plug used to plug holes during the painting of the body shell. I used to find them all the time when I worked on the Discovery line at Solihull. The paint shop should have removed them prior to assembly. Hope this helps.

Hi. The rear mount on the diff is most likely the problem as they are very prone to failure. I have had to replace mine only last month and its a easy job to do. For a really good guide on how to do them search for Hippo's how to on this forum. Good luck.
