Takes a while for the aircon to get down to temperature. Hotter it is the longer it takes.

    [P38] Exhaust gases in coolant

I doubt that reading is real. Certainly not likely with the cap off so atmospheric pressure.

    [P38] Exhaust gases in coolant

The question is how do you tell? They taste different, obviously.

Normally they use the windy gun on max-torque and just hammer it up.

Yes, I don't think going above 95C is sensible.

My sensor is bolted to the head so probably a few degrees cooler than the head itself and maybe a few degrees below the coolant as well. Usually it runs between 85 and 95C on my sensor. Thermostat opens at 82, I think. The air con fans come in too late on the later models for my liking. Already...

Indeed. How's the hair-shirt? Still itching?

What did you do with your Range Rover today

It rarely breaks 95C. Prolonged hills, especially when towing.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

I don't think so. That M51 head is its weak point. That's why later models pull in the aircon fans as well. That's on top of the Land Rover rad which is a thicker core than the aftermarket ones. Most of the time it is fine but work it hard all the time and that head cracks, especially if you put...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Oddly enough I might modify the aircon fans to kick in at 95.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Drove with the windows down today and thought I hear an odd noise that seemed to follow engine speed. Only audible around 1700 rpm so thinking idler bearing or timing chain tensioner or similar.

Not convinced my viscous is as efficient as it should be. Or maybe the radiator. Although the needle doesn't move my Engine Guard informs me the head temperature is creeping up over 95C on long steep hills.

P38 gearbox fault and engine dies

I think given we don't know the starting point with his he'd be better off doing the static with a dial guage and then maybe using the Nanocom to move it towards the engine later to see if it helps. Someone has done something wrong here so I would put everything as per RAVE to start with. My...

    P38 losing coolant

You can get UV dye to go in the coolant and then use a UV torch to see where it is leaking. As Data says, heater matrix, o-rings for said matrix, coolant hoses (check the one behind the engine by the bulkhead with a mirror), expansion cap and possibly the radiator itself. Worth pressuring...
