Certainly works on all of mine and my one is 1995.

    2000 RPM max

Probably safer than a journey into Rotherham.

P38 2.5 low on power, can't reach max rpm

+1 on Nanocom but it is possible to get that free BMW software to talk to the M51 engine, INPA? Something like INPA anyway. Stuart got it working on here somewhere.

That might be thermostatic expansion valve. It prevents a full regas and when you run it it vents to atmosphere losing gas. Takes a month or two to get low enough to notice. Cost about £27 from an air con place 10 years or so ago. It is on the bulkhead. Probably costs £50 now the robbing so and...

    2000 RPM max

Might be worth checking the throttle pot figures on Nanocom.

    2000 RPM max

@Rubberknees might have one in Rotherham but obviously you'll have to wear your stab-vest.

It's a bit of a bugger in that when you need momentum to get through the thick stuff it keeps sticking the brakes on and dragging you back in. That central viscous coupling is a bit of a sod too. With a diff lock you feather the throttle and ease your way out. With the viscous coupling you...

    P38A P38 2.5 Coolant leak

All the hoses and then the rad itself. Given that there's coolant in the battery tray the little hose from the rad to the expansion tank would be worth looking at first. You can get UV dye to go in the coolant to help track leaks.

Is the handbrake on the wheel? As the car changes height there's bound to be a little rotation on the axis where the axle would be.

Depends what he's driving. If he's just bought an L405 the Series lot might not talk to him!

Could be either in Rotherham. Or a disused mine shaft. Or someone had nicked the drain covers.

Does anyone know where to buy green LCD dash lights for P38?

I'll have to check what I bought but they were a couple if quid a dozen off eBay about a decade ago. Think the size might have been on RR.net?

P38 whistling while accelerating - transfer case?

My turbo is original on 179k miles. Pretty solid. I'd think a gasket before I thought turbo. Inlet or exhaust.

If you start feeling irregular vibration that comes and goes on P38, it could be the EAS compressor!

If it isn't the rubbers and the shaft in the compressor itself is shaking about then it may have had it and will eventually seize.

    P38A [P38] MOT Fail - Emissions

@MrGorsky just took the LPG off his. Fit that, fill it and drive it in on gas. They'll have to test it on gas and it will almost certainly pass!

Normally I would say Lemforder although I had one of theirs and it failed within a year. On the plus side they replaced it under warranty.
