Loud Bang When Shifting Gears in 95' Disco V8

Is the engine idling at the correct speed? If the idle is too high it will amplify any "slop" in the drivetrain when you select gear. Does it make the bang if you select D or R with the hand brake on? With hand brake on, youre removing sny slop in the props and axles.

Oily transmission drum brake, transfer case drain mod.

If you're in a 109, the Salisbury rear axle will save you due to having big diameter shafts. Try it in any SWB and there will be lessons learned...

Oily transmission drum brake, transfer case drain mod.

I can't offer any further assistance to your interesting view on the law of physics.

Oily transmission drum brake, transfer case drain mod.

I'd advise not to pull the hand brake whilst in motion on dry tarmac. It's easy to snap a rear shaft or punch the rear diff pin out through the axle casing. I'e seen this several times. Easier to do on Series 3 with the much longer hand brake lever.

    Td5 into Series

A Series gearbox will handle a V8 when treated with mechanical sympathy but I'd fear that the torque of a TD5 at a lower rpm/shaft speed might be too much...

    P38 2.5TDI won't start

Your timing chain has stretched. Advancing the pump on its mounts can help but is not perfect as your ECU ultimately controls pump timing. You can also search online for P38 hot start kit, which is basically a small resistor in a box which fools the engine's ECU into thinking you're on the North...

    dodgy fuel gauge

It fools the sender into working in the opposite way.

    dodgy fuel gauge

Bend the arm at the sender end 180 degrees and bolt it back into the tank " the other way round". I've done this before. You can solder on some extra material if you can find an old wire coat hanger.

    Speedo Drive gear

To the best of my knowledge, Land Rover speedo drive gears in Series 2/3 vehicles are the same. The only difference in speedos was between SWB and LWB models as they came with different sized tyres. A LWB speedo was around 11% undergeared due to being fitted with the larger 7.50's. If you look...

Classic 1995 Range Rover County Classic 3.9 V8 - Idles but stalls out when in Drive or Reverse

I'd second the base idle adjustment. If the ECU doesn't see the correct resistance/voltage signal from the closed throttle position sensor, it doesn't know that you are commanding "idling". Therefore it won't take over idle control automatically. Idle valves can be sticky but as far as I know...

    Salisbury axle brakes

It is possible to keep the 11 inch drum brakes on the rear. They're better than 10 inch as they have an an adjuster on each shoe which reduces pedal travel. What I have done on several vehicles is to remove 2 inches of lining material on the leading shoe of each side. This reduces the inherent...

    Injector pump gone bang :(

My local diesel pump rebuilders tells these types of stories regularly. The common culprit (here in Ireland) is from the more "sub prime" rural fuel stations supplying fuel mixed with bio diesel from various sources. This unregulated bio diesel lacks the lubricity of the regular EN590 spec of...

P38A 1996 4.6 Auto HSE. driver side bags not inflating after valve block rebuild.

I had a similar issue ages ago. Using two trolley jacks, I raised the vehicle up a few inches before starting it. Turns out I had two bad ride height sensors. Jacking it up brought the sensors into a better operational range.

    Britpart parallel glow plug kit

You could upgrade and get rid of the OE glow plug coil ballast completely, by using a glow plug relay from an older 80's model Toyota or Peugeot pre chamber diesel engine. The Mercedes relay was a tough old model too. These relays use an additional D+ signal from the alternator which keeps the...

Classic temp guage clocks sender or head

The fuel and temp gauges will get their power feed via a small metal box about half the size of a box of matches. This stabiliser reduces the voltage to power the gauges and also helps to buffer and slow the movement of the gauge needles. If you have the wrong one fitted, both of your gauges can...

Seeing as you have the correct sender, I'd suggest checking if you have the right voltage stabiliser.

Series 3 gearbox in Series 1

From memory, your 86'' has a solid shaft clutch release mechanism from the pedal. So no hydraulic clutch. You would need to keep your original bellhousing but I don't know for sure if it will correctly fit to a Series 3 gearbox.
