Series 2 A Series 2A rescued in Ireland

If you think that rescue project was going to be expensive, check out today's find. It's had two careful owners and I was officially informed that " she drove in there". This will also be brought back to life. All she needs is some fresh fuel and a battery....

250k miles, help with engine health checks/diagnosing

On the TDI injectors I have had modified over the years my diesel guy will only fit nozzles made by the Italian company Fratelli Bosio. They are highly rated amongst the diesel tuning fraternity and are not made from Chinesium......

Series 2 A Series 2A rescued in Ireland

Recently I helped to rescue a good mate's 2A which had been resting in a field for 14 years. Unusually, it has been stripped of paint at some stage and looks remarkably good naked. It's now en route to restoration so he's dug out his chequebook...

P38 DSE loss of power when driving

The tube from the manifold to the MAP sensor could have oil in it.

    Brake servo on a 2A Diesel ?

Have a look at www.mpbrakes.com They now do 12volt vacuum pumps which might give you a solution.

    Brake servo on a 2A Diesel ?

An alternator with built in vacuum pump will give better results that the old L/Rover butterfly system, especially in traffic, but it will need a pressurised oil supply. Power brake systems are very popular in the US which only need a 12 volt supply as they have a built in pump.

Less Is More. The LR Series lives on.

I fitted a front disk conversion last year from Design Development UK. I had to fit 30mm wheel spacers to let my OE Defender wheels clear the calipers. My winter project will be to source a set of Wolf steels ( to clear calipers) as the spacers made my steering noticeably heavier. I've also...

    Steering Box Leaks (NTC1582)

In my experience it's down to the level of scoring /damage where the shaft runs through the seal. Also mentioned on the latest you tube video from Britannica Restorations. The idea of using a Speedy Sleeve on the damaged area was considered. Time will tell.

    Discovery 1 3.5 EFI exhaust to 3.9

Any exhaust made to fit a 3.5 Rover V8 Disco 1 will fit a 3.9. There are no differences in the heads/exhaust ports. For surety you could check with the supplier that their exhaust fits a 3.5 but I have never seen a difference whatsoever.

WHICH CARB FEEDS WHICH CYLINFER ON A 3,5 v8 WITH SU's

Each carby feeds the directly opposite two cylinders and the outer two beneath it. You'll easily see it using a colour tune. On the fuel adjuster screws on V8 SU's turn them clockwise to richen the mixture and anti clockwise to lean it out. I've run SU's on my 3.5 for years. I usually set the...

    Disco 3 (LR3) Mystery plugs discovery 3

My tuppence worth for that plug relates to it being used for the tow bar connection for trailers with electric braking, which are popular in the USA.

Series 2 Does anyone know what the initials E.N.V. actually stand for?

My understanding of ENV which I got from an old engineer friend of mine was that there was a collaboration between Eaton, Nuffield and Vauxhall back in the 60's making strong axles for light commercials, much like Dana did with theirs. These axles were available to all manufacturers and were...

    oil pump priming

Your pump could be full of air. You could try unscrewing the oil pressure sender and drilling slowly on the pump.

    3.9 on carbs?

I drove an MGB V8 fitted with a downdraft two barrel Weber from a 3 litre Capri, which was a lovely mod for a lighter road car.

    3.9 on carbs?

Twin HIF44 SU's and their manifold from a Rover SD1 will fit straight onto a 3.9. These carbs are good for over 180 BHP and give good torque and smooth throttle response lower down in revs, especially off roading in a Land/Range Rover. I'd suggest staying away from the Stromberg carbs from a...

GETTING SWIVEL TO AXLE BOLTS OUT!! - they are out!!!

Scrub/wire brush off all of the rust from the bolts. Apply a few drops of diesel to them on both sides of the axle flange. It's the best penetrating oil in my experience.

Series 2a cutting out on incline

What is your fuel level when these problems happen? The bottom of suction pipe in the tank can rot away, hidden behind the mesh pre filter. Does it have this problem on a "full tank"? It sounds like a fuel supply issue, either flow or pressure.

Series 3 LWB in Buckinghamshire - Front Springs

There is a way to make your leaf springs perform in a more civilised way. Rover used this techique on their P4/P5 back in the day. The springs are greased thoroughly between the leaves and then fitted with leather gaiters to keep the water and road dirt out. I have done it once where a friend...

    Wiper motor issues ...

I'd suggest taking off the multi plug connector and checking the cleanliness of the terminals. Also check that they look like they can get a bite on the male terminals on the motor. These multiplugs are not a convincing fit into the wiper motor at the best of times.

3.9EFi in Lotus is overheating very quickly

I'd guess the top of the rad is well below the height of the thermostat housing. Make sure the coolant level in your header tank is higher than the thermostat, otherwise it won't bleed properly. If you dont have a proper header tank, search online for pics of TVR Chimaera 400 engine bay. That...
