I've got my rad partially blocked, hat and gloves, cheapo fan/heater keeping my side of the windscreen vaguely de-iced and it's still freezing, after the 5 mile commute it is just about warmer inside than out :) watching the fuel gauge go down and thinking about the price of petrol keeps me...

Hiya is it possible to get a higher output alternator for my S3, 2.6 under full electrical load - lights, heater, wipers and 20amp heater (for demisting enough to drive :D ) the fan belt is slipping and squealing a lot, and the indicators flash really slowly - charge light isn't coming on...

back together with the new pump, and not leaking yet! temp gauge is now reading at the top of the scale, all the time (even when stone cold), do I assume this means the sender is stuffed? cheers

I can't afford the fuel either :D and as my only vehicle that's an issue, I may have a see whether anyone wants it, and chop a 4 around instead! it's a shame, as it's lovely to drive, and sounds great, but needs must when the devils biting your bum...

I looked at the issues with the tdi conversion for the six pot, and it seemed OK to me - the issue really is should I chop a genuine 6 pot about! I checked when I bought it and it is original, but don't really know how rare they are, or how desirable :rolleyes:

so, I have a S3 109 2.6, with a fairly worn motor, and a LPG conversion (when it works) currently it's fairly useless motor wise - keeps breaking, parts are hard to find, and expensive when you can find them, but it's a solid old bus, and could be made good again, but... ... with the 2.6 it's...

I've gone for the 2.25 rad, bought some nice shiny ally pipes and run the outlet up, then back across the rad to the water pump - 3 s3 top hoses and one bottom hose (not on the bottom of course!) and £12 of pipes, plus a decent 2nd hand rad - about £50 quid all in, so I'm happy will all be...

hiya anyone done this? or isn't it possible? I can have my grotty paws on a 90 rad later today, and this could save me a wad of cash that I don't have! :( I can get the 2.6 rad re-cored, but thats going to take days, and cost, so this could keep me mobile until I can sort it properly cheers...

I am seriously beginning to think it would easier and cheaper to bin the whole 2.6 and replace it with something that actually works properly and that you can get parts for! I have an option on a 2nd hand 2.25 rad that will plumb in with a bit of fiddling, that should get me through the winter...

Paddocks same price.... so, can I get away with bolting any other rad into the old chicken shed, stock 2.25 for instance? can't see that it would make a lot of difference, apart from maybe needing different hoses for the top and bottom, and I was going to replace them anyway cheers Terry

craddocks... RADIATOR 2.6 LITRE. (577383) NOW £292.36 exc. VAT thats £350 quid with the VAT, no wonder these motors get swapped out for TDi's, I can buy a disco for that money!
