Brakes fade - servo - vacuum pipes?

Found the fault. It was a split vacuum pipe blow the inlet manifold, the one that goes through a solenoid before continuing on to the egr. Cut off the split and reconnected and brakes now fine again. For once a Freelander fixed at no cost :D:D:D Cheers

Brakes fade - servo - vacuum pipes?

booboodag: Thanks very much. I think I will have a look this afternoon as its not too cold. Fingers crossed its just the filter or a pipe leaking as I dont really want another big bill. I have only just had the slave cylinder and clutch done a month ago at £400 (great price, good local garage).

Brakes fade - servo - vacuum pipes?

booboodag: cheers, is the EGR filter the same as the oil seperaor in the Oil Depression Limiter on the top of the head under the cover? I have had a look on here Duckworth Land Rover Freelander 1 - TD4 and the EGR filter looks like a petrol filter or could it be the the Engine Crank case...

Brakes fade - servo - vacuum pipes?

booboodag: Not really. The first press all is fine, then the second there is less servo assist then if you release the brake then reapply straight away you have no servo assistance. You drive off and its fine again for first press, then servo assistance dies. So as long as you only press brake...

Brakes fade - servo - vacuum pipes?

Just had to nip out in my td4 and my brakes are fine on first press of the pedal then subsequent presses I seem to loose servo assistance. Are the vacuum pumps prone to going or is is probably some silly pipe that has chaffed and th vacuum is leaking? Any ideas which pipe it could be? Cheers

    td4 Clutch again

I had a problem with the clutch back in May and after reading lots on here I took a chance and replaced the Master Cylinder. This worked fine till the day before we went on holiday last week. Then 1 mile from home the pedal hit the floor and wouldn't come back up!!! Left car on drive and then...

    high clutch pedal

Very good point, I had forgotten that. It is a head under the dash job but as Sheddist said try just putting the circlip back from under the dash first.

    Freelander remote/alarm/immobiliser

Sounds a bit of a strange problem but this page gives details of improving the remote range that may help. increase Freelander Remote range

    high clutch pedal

Sheddist might well be right. A few things first, I believe all Freelanders are hydraulic clutches, none have a ratchet adjuster. A few things check. The 1.8 has an external slave cylinder on the gearbox bell housing, these are prone to breaking the supporting bracket, then the clutch pedal...

    central locking problem

Mark, sorry I haven't replied before, you may well have fixed it now, but I will try and explain what I did. It was the passenger side front door on my 3 door 2001 hard top that wouldn't unlock. I took out the central locking motor from inside the door, I guess you can find instructions on here...

    First Steps...

Just to let you know, myfreelander.com domain expired and a spammy advert site bought the domain name. I am pleased to report that Jon Mapp who originally compiled all the freelander info did still have a large part of the site. He was very kind and gave me the files. I managed to get...

    1998 XeDi Freelander overrun

Glad to hear its all up and running again. Sounds like you have a very good engine now, with all the head work and a newer turbo. As for not doing a compression test.... it wasnt like it should be difficult to get the new injectors out. But £400 isnt too bad, hope it all goes well from here on...

    Freelander Central Locking

Chris, you can get a central locking servo from Maplins (UK) for about £9 and can then adapt the latch mechanism to accept this. Its a bit fiddly bit not too bad and works a treat.
