    I need a new turbo

One thing to remember is that the Freelander uses a variable vain compressor wheel. So its a little more complicated than a 'normal' turbo. It may be a bit more expensive but a refurb is a good option depending on what's actually wrong. i.e. if it started smoking under deceleration then its...

Wiper linkage snapped - Help - Please

Thanks, looking at the rain forecast I should be OK on the way back. I will certainly investigate the cable tie fix when I get home. I will buy a new mechanism but till I can get to the main dealers I may try the cable ties. :) Thanks

Wiper linkage snapped - Help - Please

I was driving thru Birmingham last night in the rain and the passenger wiper arm stopped!!!! I managed to pull into the services but the passenger side seems disconnected. The nut that secures the arm is tight but I think the linkage has snapped. I am about 300 miles from my rave CD! Can anyone...

    Camblet changed, now ?clutch slipping?

To be honest I haven't got a 1.8 petrol, I have a TD4 (that has had slave cylinder replaced) so I cant really be more specific. I have just had a look at Rave 33-5 and I think the bit that seizes is the bit the rod out of the slave cylinder attaches to or pushes. Sorry I cant be more specific...

    Camblet changed, now ?clutch slipping?

Sounds like the rod that activates the clutch that goes thru the gearbox may be siezing. It's a fairly common problem. I believe you might be able to free it off by using penetrating oil on the shaft where it goes in the gearbox. Good Luck

    Clutch Replacement

I think if you look closely its not riveted. Some of the brackets have rivets in but they just hold the mounting brackets on to the guard. Get a Rave manual and have a look it really helps with exploded views.

    Gear select problems

I take it that the rod that goes into the gearbox is not sticking? Other than that I am guessing that it could really only be the master cylinder or the clutch its self?

Impending doom of Road tax on a 2001 TD4

I do hope it isnt going to be £425. I only do about 3000 miles a year!!! I used to have a Volvo T5 estate that did about 28 to the gallon on a run now I have a more economical car and it is to be taxed more!!! Madness. The 2001 limit is silly, as Fake Elvis says it should just be new cars. Its...

    2003 Freelander Problems

May be best to have a nice polite chat with garage and say you have found an independent Freelander specialist who charges £xx an hour and will they pay for the repair? If they will you are fine. If not you can choose to use small claims court. You will have to prove they wont fix it etc...

    2003 Freelander Problems

Sometimes a chat to your local trading standards office is very useful. They should be able to advise what words to use to assist. But if I remember correctly the law is poor on this. I believe you have to give the garage opportunity to repair the problems. Here starts the problem, according to...

    Vibration....

As far as I am aware no special LR tools involved. Just the normal BIG nut done up very tight!!!! If you can get hold of a Rave CD - Ebay or have a google. That has lots of exploded views and technical info. Torque settings etc... Good luck.

    gear problems

If its a td4 then the slave is a concentric in gearbox slave!!! So the only way to change is to remove the gearbox. So you might as well change the slave cylinder and the clutch at the same time. I had mine done last Dec and it was about £470 for new clutch, new slave and fitting. I believe that...

My Freelander engine has blown up!

If you try and sell the broken car you will probably have to knock off £3000!!!!! As although you know its only the engine a buyer may be a bit more sceptical! To be honest people might be a bit put off but if you were to trade it in they might not have a problem as long as you have receipts.

    2003 Freelander Problems

To be honest it doesn't matter if the dealer doesn't know what he is doing. Fundamentally it's his problem. If he cant sort it will he pay the bill for it to be fixed?

    Vibration....

I would guess that it should take an hour or so for a skilled mechanic to change a drive shaft. Depending on your experience and your tools it might be worth thinking about doing it yourself?

Old favorite - Tyres - 15 inch rim

I know this sort of thing has been asked and answered many times but basically I dont intend to take the Freelander off roading, we get Very little snow in Blackpool, I only do about 3 to 4K miles a year mainly round town. So I need budget 195/80/15 tyres for my TD4 I have the following options...

    L series

Cant tell you how many but 2 things to consider. 1. Most engine problems come from the 1.8 petrol, not either of the diesels. 2. Emission laws changed and I dont think the L series diesel would pass the newer tests.
