Freelander 1 Tailgate stuck shut, can't open at all

So i finally got round to doing this today. Was fiddly but i'm now working again!! :D Turns out the plastic cover inside the door over the lock mechanism is to keep it all a little bit more protected. I couldn't work out how to get it off even though there didn't seem to be any more screws...

    power steering cutting out!

I'd check your auxillary drive belts for correct tension. Basically as the engine turns it turns a belt that drives your power steering pump. If that belt snaps entirely then you'll lose the power steering and it gets really hard to turn the wheel. If its only doing it at low speeds i'd check...

Freelander 1 Tailgate stuck shut, can't open at all

Well thats half the problem, its acting like its stuck when i pull that handle, as if something is wedged underneath the glass. You can see the glass move like its trying to go down but instead of going down it kinda flexes/twists a few mm instead and gives up. If i didnt know any better i'd say...

Freelander 1 Tailgate stuck shut, can't open at all

Couldn't do this the other day and was really struggling in the dark with how much junk i had in the back of the car!! Gonna have another bash again today. Fingers crossed.

    Freelander 1.8 K series engine !

I cleaned all mine off a treat and still had a problem with the tappets/lifters being noisey for the first few hours of running it. I even left them in a jug of oil while i carried out the work so they didn't lose any. Eventually they had enough oil get to them and the noise settled off and...

    Freelander 1.8 K series engine !

Yeah, it was my old q6600. I was pushing for 4.0ghz with it but didn't manage it :( Still a fun project though for a rainy afternoon. Dropped the temps by about 5 degrees. Running water cooling now and the modern chips just don't require the extra effort of lapping fo an OC as they already fly...

    Freelander 1.8 K series engine !

I've used the same method for lapping a computer processor. From manufacture the top of the processor is usually not entirely flat and obviously the thicker it is, the slower it will conduct heat away from the chip. A glass chopping board with a sheet of wet and dry, working through the grades...

Freelander 1 Tailgate stuck shut, can't open at all

Yeah, i tried that one. No joy :( I've taken the two smaller screws out, but can't see the larger one. It looks like the whole thing is covered in some type of plastic protective shielding that i took the two small silver screws out of. It moves for the most part but is still really stuck in...

Freelander 1 Tailgate stuck shut, can't open at all

Hi guys, got a really annoying problem with my rear tailgate door. put the girlfriends bike in the back and shut the door, only to find out at the other end that the door wouldn't open again. Window goes up and down with the fob/internal switch/key in the tailgate handle lock. When pressing...

Really solid thread dude, you make the vcu refurb look really easy, might have to give this a try with the one sat at my parents place...

    high mileage

You only have to skim it if it's warped though. If you replace the head gasket as a routine maintenance item it'll never get to that stage. It's dead easy to replace them as well, really not such a big deal.

    Freelander rear disc conversion

On my bikes at least, leaving a hot brake applied leads to the rotor cooling down at different rates and is very easy to warp them by doing this. Is a car disc brake noticeably more rugged in that regard or would that need to be taken into consideration as well?

    Freelander Drivers door lock

Dont think so, they looked pretty different when i had mine out. If i remember right the rear was noticeably smaller and has the child lock switch etc. Swapped out two of them easy enough, although i had help doing the first one.

Freelander 1 My Truck So Far........ (1st landy)

Okay, replace the word moose with small child, grandma, pet dog, supermodel in distress. Etc. Swerving those things is damn dangerous, i'd never own one purely for that reason. Sell the jeep and use the money to fund said bbq though and i'll bring some beers ;)

Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

Yeah, i know. I'm running this engine for a while to get me about and in the meantime i'm going to start making work of stripping down the engine in the spare freelander and cleaning it out, tuning the ports, new seals all over etc. etc. once it's gleaming and absolutely perfect it's going into...

Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

Got very fed up with the noise so dropped to 4th at 70mph and pushed the revs to almost 5,000rpm. The noise got louder and louder then stuttered a bit before disappearing completely. Looks like my blockage has gone!! Much less smoke out the back at idle and no noisey fuel pump, slightly better...
