Assuming thats correct, then it backs up my point saying that it was only worth a £100 was ridiculous. And as an aside there is something that doesn't quite sit right about sending a landy to a scrapyard who will then turn it into a cube :(
2 weeks ago I got £130 for a swb diesel with rotten chassis, doors, bulkhead, tub literally hanging off, non runner. A complete basketcase. His will sell for between 350-550 if he's being honest about what it needs to get it through the MOT.
Nope. it definitely doesn't do any of that. I'll get the holes in the footwells sorted and take it for an MOT and see what happens. Thankfully there is so much oil leaking out of the sump gasket all over the chassis it seems to have preserved it ;)
Thats exactly what I am talking about LB! Although I'm hoping a new set of shocks all round, some steering rod ends and a tweak of the steering box will help:D
@Oxides. Nope definitely high range. And yes, I agree, if I was doing 45 in low range I would fully expect to have to pick my...
Thanks guys. I did wonder whether most MOT testers would notice. The downside is that I live in proper farmer country so I guess they will know exactly what to look for.
1) My welder (over the phone) asked what the footwell area was made of. I guessed at mild steel. Am i wrong?
2) The replacement footwells like this one > LAND ROVER SERIES 2 & 3 FOOTWELL REPAIR PANEL L/H (RHD) on eBay (end time 04-Aug-10 16:42:02 BST) , are they bolted in , welded in or both...
Makes me wonder whether it is a gearing issue, because at 45 it's screaming it's nuts off. I'm going to do an oil service on diffs/gbox/engine etc before I try another speed run
@Jai - Was shocked to read your claim of 60mph. A little investigation is needed by the look of it.
@Key - You are right running in my locality was never a problem, it was really about decent A road stretches between green lanes that was a concern :)
Yeah, gear / diff ratio's did occur to me. Also the possibility that brakes may be dragging was another idea.
Now that you have confirmed the 60mph top speed, I really need to do some investigation. I'll do as you suggest and stick the tom tom in it and see what that says.
Cheers
I posted a question i the green laning section about my 2 1/4 petrol being slow. I thought 45mph top speed (eventually!) was about right. Although someone has said 60mph should be achievable (without an O/D).
Is that right ?
It's got a weber on it and starts and runs lovely. No tappety...
LOL. I can't imagine mine doing 70, other than onthe back of low loader :D
mine also has an incontinence problem which willneed sorting before hitting the lanes.
I have had it up to 45, but I was worried that either my diff/g'box/engine or inner ear would explode, so I backed it down to 40!
I wouldn't be too worried about constantly having to catch up, just wouldn't want everyone else to be ****ed off as they are constantly having to wait/slow down for...
