Agreed. When looking at the overall wiring diagram it was quite apparent that there's a lot of accessories constantly live (via the ignition) that are switched by the ECU via an earth supply!! Far cry from my old dynamo powered Mk 1 Escort !!!

Agreed. The cost of the key alone should cover programming it to the vehicle and should also include a full service, a full valet, a courtesy car, and a fish and chip supper.

Got a new key for mine about two months ago, same as yourself from genuine local LR dealer. Still had to run down to the local locksmith boffin to have it programmed to the vehicle! LR dealer wanted about another £80 on top of the price of the key to program it in. Local locksmith plugged in the...

I've got one of them there manuals. If you let me know what bits you need I could scan the relevant pages and email them to you. Can't do anything until Monday though if you do want any mailing over.

The key bit here is "in my opinion". A taper is designed to be drawn in up to a specified torque (as you know!), and I just wouldn't have enough confidence in one that has been turned in. I may be wrong (and if you ask the wife I usually am!), it's just something that would trouble me!! I think...

Similar concept to mine but better!! Could rapidly be turning into an engineering masterpiece!! For me it has to be something like this though. While I accept that thread lock would hold the existing design in place, too much torque would be lost in the friction between the two taper surfaces...

Been reading this thread with great interest because I love an invention!! Have to agree with the above about tightening it against the friction of the taper. There's no way (in my humble opinion) that you could get the taper pulled in enough by having to turn it. Only way I can see of doing it...
