    Tapping noise

Thanks mate, I wasn't sure. I thought they went to 4.0 after the 1. Interesting to know though - did they do the coil packs instead of the Dizzy..... mmmmm?

    Visit to Spain

Hi Guys, We have a good club down here in Gibraltar and as mentioned previously are more than willing to accomodate any visitors on their way to morroco as you'll be on our front door step. On another point, if anyone wants to bring a 'on it's last legs' defender/disco/rangie down have a play...

    Tapping noise

I'm not sure about your knowledge on these so I apologise in advance if Im not giving you the credit you deserve. Going back to my younger days, I thought the same and it was a minute leak from the manifold gasket that sounded like a tap - just a thought mate. Hey guys - did they to the 3.9 in...

    Removal of Cats

Hi, I've looked at the other thread regarding exhaust mods. I live in Gibraltar and a local company are willing to remove the cats and centre box for me as I've requested a straight through pipe. I only use the car off road and want the smiles per gallon effect. If I remove the Cats, will I...

    doing away with abs

Kev, thanks for your input - trusted as always. My motor is not used as a car, mainly for an offroader but obviously plenty of slippy spanish roads in between. So I'll bow to everyones advice and get myself a recon pump. Thanks everyone

    doing away with abs

The light was removed years ago by previous owner. The pump is nacked and I've got another disco without abs I can use the brake pipes off of. I was just wondering about the master cylinder - is it the same etc. Thanks anyways

    doing away with abs

can anyone tell me if I do away with the abs pump on my 300 v8 and route the pipes as normal, will it be ok? or is the master cylinder etc purely for abs? i've got brakes but very hard pedal. Took it to my local dealer who says the pump is f...cked. (he put it on the machine). Any advice...

    Who says V8's don't swim

Yes Kev, you're talking to a person who has lived by the sea all of his life and seen the damage caused by salt water. It's a place in Spain called San Martin just north of Gibraltar. The rivers there are as a result of the fresh water coming down from the hills - with the end of the summer...

can i have a snorkel on my v8

All has been said that has to be said - safari snorkel on mine, no problem but I only need it to go to Morocco and sandy spain as I live in Gibraltar. I bought a Disco v8 before in the UK when I lived there and he too gave me that excuse. Realised that he hadn't been arsed to fit it properly...

    braking problems

Same problem on my last Disco. 98 TDI - Wheel bearings have to be spot on. Had mine changed and the intermittent ABS cutting in will probably go! Out here in SPain there is a guy with all the diagnostics you can shake a hairy stick at and he has found all faults in my last 2 cars. So rather...

    3.9 4.2 or 4.6

Brilliant posts. I was on the verge of swapping my kitted out 3.9 Disco for a 4.0 NAS one here in Spain. But I think I'll stick with it. What can I do (with a small budget) to upgrade the power a little. I understand that the ecu can be 'downloaded' sent away then reinstalled giving another...

    Who says V8's don't swim

let me know what you end up doing and if it works - I suppose the main problem is keeping the ECU dry.

    Exhaust recommendations please

Hi, I've got a Disco 3.9 EFI (cat model). I've had a look at a few websites. I'm very undecided about keeping the car as my old TDI has come up for sale again and I may buy it back. Does anyone know of exhausts at the cheaper end of the market? Failing that other recommendations? The Car is...

    Distributor - vacuum advance/2 or 3 pin

Thanks for the advice Kev, much appreciated. The vehicle has only done 40k miles so you're probably right about not bothering with the whole dizzy. I've just seen that you can buy online the dizzy which has the vacuum cap and rotar arm with it for 100 quid from a site called simonbb and...

    Distributor - vacuum advance/2 or 3 pin

Hi, I have a 3.9 1998 Disco 1. I've not owned it long and it's dire on acceleration. I've given the Vacuum advance a suck and can get any pressure so thats a good start. My question is that all the Dizzy's i'm looking at are listed as '3pin' and older 3.5's are listed as needing a 2 to 3 pin...
