Here’s The Story Of A 1997 Land Rover Defender With Zero Miles

This is the US where Defenders are hard to come by. $100k isn't much considering what they'll pay for a well-preserved Chevy RustBucket. Far more exclusive than an old Jeep or a new RRSport.

Hi/Low selctor jumps out of hi range

Mine jumps out if it doesn't go fully home when selected. I give it another tug once rolling. Think it's just the transfer gear teeth not lining up perfectly at a standstill. Never had it come out once it's gone home.

    Most expensive MOT

When I bought mine I did the following sum: Deduct expected cost of repairs from budget, what's left is what I'll pay for the vehicle. Mine worked out about 50/50 (i.e. cost me about the same to get it up and running in my preferred condition as it cost to buy the thing initially) but it...

Somebody will but: 1. They'll be in the Freelander section 2. They'll get awfully sarcastic if you don't post something in the "Introduce Yourself" section first Do 2 then ask in 1 :)

    auto vs manual

The peakier the engine, the more gears you need. The Evoque's got 9  Both 3.0 TD and 4.0 gas managed fine with a 4-speed and I managed to not cook either of them.

    auto vs manual

It's easier to finesse the drive to the wheels with an auto as you can hold throttle and brake without wearing anything but you get less engine braking. Had manual (Series) and auto (Hilux, Jeep, RRC) offroad and can't say one's better than the other unless the downs are very steep (in which...

    Camping on a greenlane

Pulling off the right of way onto the verge is trespass. Please don't do that. Stopping on the right of way would, I assume, be much the same as stopping in the middle of a country lane for the night. Migut not be a good idea. If you're self-sufficient, find a lay-by or a pub car park...

Then there's the problem of the mapping. String course for littleuns - no problem, but maps? Could probably knock up something halfway decent given a day on site (with GPS). Wouldn't be to-the-step accurate, and wouldn't have contours, but might be good enough.

discovery 2 - where to put al the stuff

There are plenty of custom storage solutions on the internet. Tape measure, plywood, some planed softwood and a couple of hinges and you can make up your own if you can't find a pattern that suits. And don't forget you can attach light stuff, like first aid kits, to the plastic trim.

    Help

I assumed "press the brake pedal" meant "stall it" (another previous tactic) :p Definitely sounds like all is not well with the wiring to the solenoid. You can fit a switch in line to it (or just open the bonnet with the engine running and pull the wire off the solenoid, with insulated...
