    Cooling Problems

The pulley with the fan-belt running over it. wot you photographed earlier. An alternative to using a screwdriver between the bolts to hold it still, is to stick something into one of them holes in the shaft/hub wot you can see in your picture in-between the fan and the pulley.

    200 TDi stainless exhausts

(200TDi 90) My exhaust is heading towards needing to be replaced and I was looking into stainless systems. Several companies do pipe systems that replace the mid silencer with just a pipe. Does anyone have experience of these? Whats to be gained and does it affect the emissions for the MOT?

    Horrible rattle possibly transfer box

Hi All, My beast his developed a horrible rattle some where in the drive-train, sounds like a UJ on the way out, but with my luck will probably turn out to be the most expensive option. If it turns out to be the transferbox, where do people recommend getting a refurb unit from? Oh, yea...

    brake master cylinder leak

A couple of minor problems with this, first is I can't weld, and secound I don't have the facilities to do the reaming.:D Other wise, a very good idea.

    brake master cylinder leak

It should only be gravity pressure at this seal, it's on the feed into the master cylinder. If I had high pressure here I'd be really worried. Any where else in the brake system I would never dream of using PTFE or any other 'fix', it would be replace/renew.:)

    brake master cylinder leak

It was part of a refurb kit. And (expecting lots of abuse) yep it was Britpart, but one seal works ok, while the other weeps fluid. I scrapad loads of crap from the hole that now leaks, so I suspect it's more likely to be slightly loose in the hole rather than the seal it's self.

    brake master cylinder leak

Can anyone suggest an easy way to stop brake fluid leaking from around the resevoir mounting seals?? The fecking thing didn't leak before I did an overhaul of the master cylinder, now I can't stop it leaking. And putting the old seal back in doesn't stop it. Would wrapping PTFE tape...

Is my steering heavy or normal?

Some waffle about self centring steering.:D Landy steering is power assisted as opposed to true powered steering. The pump system helps turn the steering, rather than directly driving/powering the steering. The hydrolic pressure is only maintained while the steering is turning, and when it...

    Brake servo question

Could be, didn't think of that one. And before anyone suggests it, no I am not going to turn/remove it to see what happens.:D

    Brake servo question

A question about my brake servo (picture below); I recon this is a type 80 servo going by the position of the non-return valve and it's over 270mm across. (please say if you think otherwise) Does anyone know what the screw on the right-hand side, opposite the non-return valve, is...

    2.5 td starting problems

If I understand the workings of glow plugs at all, it's simillar to testing spark plugs.:D Probably safer to do them one at a time. Connect one end of the negative lead to the screw thread of the plug (what normally touches the engine block) and the other end to either the engine block or...

    90 brakes - odd problem

This is my servo, (not the best view, but there's no clear angle on it); Going by the position of the valve and a rough measurment (270+mm aprox), I'd say it's this model; NRC4772 SERVO ASSY TYPE 80 | Defender 1985> | shop | www.lrseries.com | L. R. Series

    90 brakes - odd problem

Had a poke round my master cylinder and servo, and have worked out the leak seems to be around the bottom of the joint between the cylinder and the servo. Does anyone think it would cause a problem to use sealant on this joint?

    90 brakes - odd problem

Suspected that might be the answer, so it looks like I'll also be trying to work out which type of servo unit mines fitted with.:D

    90 brakes - odd problem

Tried that, Only a very slight drop in pedal pressure as it starts up. When I stop the engine the servo unit hisses for a few seconds - always has done - and I've always believed this to be the vacuum releasing. Is this normal/common?

    2.5 td starting problems

Yes, I replaced the lift pump, all the injector pipes and even the return pipe. Also swaped the glow plugs. One thing to try, is fitting a non return valve in the fuel line. Then you know the fuel can't drain back any further than where that is. I actually put two in, one just above the fuel...

    90 brakes - odd problem

I've just finished giving my brakes an overhaul, new braided flexi pipes referb seal kit in master cylinder. System fully bleed through. When I road tested it I've got good brakes while drivivng and the engine is reving, but if the engine is idling, like rolling up to a junction with me foot...

    2.5 td starting problems

Hi, Had the same with my '87 90TD, some mornings in winter it would nearly flatten the battery before firing up. I practicly replaced the entire fuel system trying to cure the problem, thinking it was possibly fuel starvation, but nothing made any difference. In the end the engine either blew...
