how do i engage low range?

The advice in the owners manual is the best I think... it amounts to engage it when you think you're going to need it and disengage it as soon as you're sure you don't need it. Only experience will make sure you get it right. You'll get properly stuck less if you have the difflock already...

    Oil Types??

Use GL4 EP80/90 rather than GL5 EPx80/90 or GL5 EP90 in the transfer box. It's got less additives than the GL5 and potentially does less damage to your box. GL5 oils can apparently degrade phosphor bronze components in gearboxes where high shearing pressure/ high temperatures are found. The...

    Re-setting caliper pistons

I don't know exactly how it works and it won't make a lick of difference if the piston is seized - I'd guess it does just take the master cylinder out of the equation so you're not trying to push against it and a hydralic pipe full of fluid.

    Re-setting caliper pistons

Cracking the bleed nipple a little can help sometimes too... you will need to bleed the brakes if you follow that route ;)

    Re-setting caliper pistons

G-cramp... but use a big un an a block of wood against the pistons rather than the cramp itself so as not to damage it. You can use a ring spanner on the tommy bar of the cramp to get some extra torque if the piston is a bit seized to start with. If it is though, a rebuild should be on the...

Ah... I know what's happened. It's either: The rod from the small stick to the transfer box has come out of the transfer box end... Or There's a selector in the top of the transfer box held on by a grub screw, the grub screw has come loose and now the actuator connecting the selector to the...

    200tdi with R380

You mean shorten the rear prop, lengthen the front prop, change the position of the gearbox mounts, not to mention the gear sticks which would mean needing to have a 'remote' to change gear for you as it'll be about 6 inches too far back in the cab, or as Marcus said, carry a passenger in the...

    200tdi with R380

IIRC the short R380 was about £850, figure nicked from another forum so I dunno how accurate that is, whereas a recon LT77s is £395 exchange - best bet would be ring 'em.

    200tdi with R380

The bellhousing and input shaft on the stock R380 is a lot longer than the LT77s - Ashcroft do/did a short R380 apparently, but it was a bit pricey. Hope that helps a little,

    R380 gearbox/transfer box

The difference will be the bell housing, no idea if they're different for the V8 or the Tdi / Td5 - even so, you've got the bellhousing from your own engine so you'll be able to swap that to whichever gearbox you source. Hope that helps,

    Prop shaft question

Which direction does the prop move in when you 'wiggle it'... and which bit of the prop is the movement most evident in - it will be either the yokes at the ends or it won't be the prop itself, it seem to be the flange the prop bolts to at the transfer box end. If you mean the prop can be...
