I don't know exactly how it works and it won't make a lick of difference if the piston is seized - I'd guess it does just take the master cylinder out of the equation so you're not trying to push against it and a hydralic pipe full of fluid.

Cracking the bleed nipple a little can help sometimes too... you will need to bleed the brakes if you follow that route ;)

IIRC the short R380 was about £850, figure nicked from another forum so I dunno how accurate that is, whereas a recon LT77s is £395 exchange - best bet would be ring 'em.

The bellhousing and input shaft on the stock R380 is a lot longer than the LT77s - Ashcroft do/did a short R380 apparently, but it was a bit pricey. Hope that helps a little,

The difference will be the bell housing, no idea if they're different for the V8 or the Tdi / Td5 - even so, you've got the bellhousing from your own engine so you'll be able to swap that to whichever gearbox you source. Hope that helps,
