There's a hell of a lot more glycerin in SVO mixed with DERV than in Bio... Making bio is, essentially, removing the glycerides from the fatty acids in oil. Even if you've got crap bio where they've only removed 75% of the glycerides, that's still 50% less than in a 50-50 mix of SVO and DERV.

Err... why? Bio has almost exactly the same viscosity as DERV and better lubricity. If he was talking about SVO or WVO then sure. DERV to EN590 has a viscosity of between 2.0 and 4.5 at 40°C Bio has a viscosity of between 1.9 and 6.0 at 40°C SVO (typical) has a viscocity in excess of 35.8 at...

My 200 Tdi has done 136k miles and all I've had to replace is a water pump... 200Tdi water pump £30.50 300Tdi water pump £14.95 TD5 water pump £38.95 I'm not saying they're not reliable... but they are expensive for parts compared with a Tdi and as they're more complicated they're also harder...

When was the last time the air filter was changed?

This is the first thing to check... BUT... don't just fill up the reservoir without checking the condition of the pads first. Almost worn out pads means the pistons stay pushed out a long way and the fluid level appears to drop in the reservoir - if you fill it up and then replace the pads...

Heh - better example: 200 Tdi Cylinder Head: £500 300 Tdi Cylinder Head: £245 TD5 Cylinder Head: £1,150 Err... wouldn't want to replace a head on a TD5 :eek:

Anything is fixable, but Sean is right, without the diagnostic software it'd be a slow and very expensive process. Have a look on Paddocks website for a comparison of costs involved with fixing a broken TD5 compared with a Tdi. Scarey stuff I reckon :eek: Example... exhausts for a 90. 200...
