Mixing New and Old Coolant / Antifreeze

Hi all, We've just had our first frost of the winter, as this is the first winter I've spent with my FL ('04 TD4) outside I thought I better check the anti-freeze. I've got one of those pippet style testers with the floaty balls. It reported a "medium" level of protection. It had a coolant...

Why is my Freelander td4 so damn slow!!!!!

Unless his clutch is slipping, 80mph in a TD4 will be at the same revs as every other TD4. The ratio between wheels and revs (in the same gear) is fixed. Performance problems would result in getting to those revs/speed in a longer amount of time.

Why is my Freelander td4 so damn slow!!!!!

Would be worth knowing if it's slower than other TD4s, there's a thread on here if you search where a number of us compared performance in 5th from 60 to 70 (or something). For what it's worth, I don't find mine especially slow.

    Leaky Boot - Potential Contributor?

Brief update in case anyone finds this during a search, since removing the sponge under the bottom panel - dry boot. :) Something else to try when chasing leaks in the back of the FL.

any other freelander owners in the northwest?

I'm moving from St Albans in the south to Holmfirth in mid January. Glad there's some other FLers up there.

    more newbie freelander questions

Hi, I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to the FLs TC, but I assumed it would be capable of braking any spinning wheels, emulating locking diffs. Certainly in the snow I thought i'd felt the TC braking spinning wheels to move power to wheels with more grip? If not, what is the TC for?

    Leaky Boot - Potential Contributor?

Hi, That's interesting - which screws are we talking about? The load securing loops and cubby lock screws? Thanks.

    Leaky Boot - Potential Contributor?

Hi, This is the first autumn/winter I've spent with my car outside and (predictably) the cubby in the boot is wet. Spent a bit of time investigating this morning. It's only the passenger side half of the cubby that's wet, the bit that's slightly deeper. I took the trim panel under the rear...

How i repaired and modified my FBH system

Brilliant, thanks for sharing. Going to buy a remote control and a timer circuit and try and do something similar.

    Fbh heater td4

Thanks Baron. What do you do to that wire? Earth or 12v? Is it a case of the FBH fires up while that wire is connected, and dies when disconnected, or is it more like a "toggle" (connect once for on, again for off?) Thanks.

Davies Craig EWP - FINALLY SORTED!!!

Have been following (the bits I understand at least) on your other thread, congrats on getting it sorted. Any idea why it had to be modified to be accurate? Shouldn't it have been accurate out of the box?

What have you done to your Freelander today

My 2004 failed on rusty brake pipes a couple of weeks ago, cost an annoying £300 to get fixed.

    Fbh heater td4

Hi Baron - when you know all the answers can you post back on here please? I'd like a go at something like this.

Simple Question about a fuel light

There definitely is on a 2004.... (Sorry, that hasn't really helped)

    fbh advice ?

You should be able to hear it firing up on cold mornings. About 30 seconds after engine start mine makes a odd Chewbacca-like howl. You can also hear the fuel pump ticking away at the back of the car.

    up north

My girlfriend and I are looking to move to Holmfirth in the Peak District - I assume that counts as "up north"?

    What's this leak??

The hose on mine was missing when I got the car - wet carpets after using the aircon. I cut a length of garden hose, which when heated in boiling water slid on to the evaporator box and carries water out into the engine bay.

freelander abs pulses at under 5 mph

You haven't got Hill Decent turned on have you? That works at under 5mph(ish) and pulses the brakes.

    SNOW what to expect ??

Yup, as above really. Was my first winter with the Freebie last winter, I couldn't have been more impressed, dare I say it, traction control, ABS (and the luxury of heated windscreen and heated seats) made it better than my old 90 (or at least warmer).

    Mantec group purchase!

Sorry chaps, I think £180 for the snorkel is probably too much for me, it would only be a vanity mod.
