    one wheel drive

Going to show my ignorance of the FL (and everything else) now. If it was the IRD, wouldn't he get drive to either both front wheels or neitherl? Doesn't the IRD just spit the power out front and rear, it's then split either side of the axle by the diffs? To not get drive to a pair of wheels...

    silly question

It really is! I've played with it before, but only needed it once, was very glad to have it....

    Mpg way down?

I'm not sure it's all down to the temperature, unless you're doing lots of short journeys? Increased alternator load wouldn't account for a nearly 30% drop in economy and once the engine is up to temp, it should give similar MPG despite the outside temperature. FBH does make a difference, but...

    So cold!

Mine's great, FBH gets us toasty quickly. Engine does sound like a bag of spanners in the cold though, does anyone elses?

Balls. Lost my spare key and fob

Hi, I think I've lost my spare fob and key. :frusty: There's a site here: Land Rover Freelander Key Fob who'll do me a new one for about £60. Is the key "dumb" i.e. just a bit of metal, or has it got some electrickery inside as well? Immobiliser chip etc?

Do you regret buying a Freelander?

My only regret is that, despite it being 100% reliable (so far, touch wood) since I bought it, I still don't trust it - this is entirely down to it's reputation, not my experience. My experience is that it's an econmical, comfortable, relatively quiet car, with proper "all weather" on-road...

    Snow!

Had my first proper test of HDC the other night, a ridiculously steep ice/snow covered hill, very difficult to drive manually (i.e. in first and using the brakes) without locking up. It was steep enough that if the front locked, the rear would start to slide round. HDC on, down we went with no...

    Bye bye EWP

Think it's probably the right choice, but absolutely good on you for giving it a go, for what it's worth, I've enjoyed reading your trials and tribulations.... :)

Freelander 1 What mileage is your Freelander 1 on?

Figured it was better to replace it before it started to cause problems, and not being paranoid about it trashing the rest of the transmission was worth a few quid.

Freelander 1 What mileage is your Freelander 1 on?

'04 TD4 HSE on nearly 93,000 miles. Car wears its miles really well, interior is basically as new, everything apart from the rear heated screen works. I put a new VCU on at 90k, but there wasn't anything wrong with the old one (as far as I could tell). I really like it, it's a really excellent...

    Boot locker

I had a wet boot, found it was caused by some anti-rattle foam under the boot sill trim soaking up water from under the seal and transporting it into the locker. Removed the foam, had a dry locker since.

Fuel consumption, aircon on v off

Don't get me wrong, I love AC, I'd just like to be able to turn it off and still have air blowing at the screen. My FL is currently leak free, so isn't really suffering from condensation, plus there's the heated front screen. It'd be nice to be able to have the air blowing at the screen while I...

    Ipod cable???

I've an '04 HSE with the factory Becker stereo/nav. I bought a cheapo cable from eBay that replaces the CD Changer input with a 3.5mm Line In. Works fine, cost about a tenner.

Fuel consumption, aircon on v off

I've been getting annoyed with this recently too. Thinking of taking the centre console apart to try and disable the auto demisting switching. I'm hoping it's as simple as unplugging a wire.....

    Britpart VCU

Agreed, I've had my Bells VCU on for a year - couldn't be happier with it.

    Newbie from Malta

Hi. I bloody love Malta, my parents live in Grand Harbour 7 months of the year.

    Snow!!!!!

Just a dusting here in St Albans. In 3 months time we'll have moved to the Peak District, i'm expecting very different snow experience.

    Outside Temperature

Hi. No, annoyingly there is no temperature display on UK models.

    Leaky rear door seal..

Mine's dry (for now). A few weeks ago it started to get very wet in my cubby box, but I found some anti-rattle sponge under the floor trim which was soaking up water and moving it into the boot. I started a thread about it if you're interested.

Mixing New and Old Coolant / Antifreeze

Thanks SV, didn't know about the bleed screw on the bulkhead, I'll do that. Am I right in thinking that as long as I get another red coolant, it'll be ok to mix together?
